- SB sucks for consolidating servers as you ramp down after peak hours.
- SB enables team/clan stacking. It allows sweats to server hop until they find an 'easy' server.
- In the SB/MM hybrid scenario the MM players will tend to get the bad maps. Hello Hourglass.
- Third parties can mine industry data from the server browser. Player counts. What modes are popular. That sort of industry data is big $$$. EA is likely reluctant to give it away for free.
- Persistent servers don't allow progression between matches. (I recall this being an issue on BFV. And I recall this item also being brought up during one of the 2042 podcasts).
are you seriously arguing that MM is better and we shouldn't have the option for quickplay AND server browser?
it worked fine in earlier BF games and none of the "issues" you mention were present. those are straw man arguments that are are opinions. if you LIKE MM then you would still have the quickplay option. there is zero reason outside of money and desire for control to not allow people to pick the maps/modes they want. let people play what they want when they want how they want.
Clearly the decision to omit AoW from the server browser was made intentionally, likely by reasonable people after a weighing of the pros and con's. There was likely a meeting between EA/DICE in 2021 where this issue was considered and decided.
My post was simply a list of the likely SB con's discussed which won the argument. While you may dismiss the SB con's, it's clear that EA/DICE leadership did not.
You'll get no argument from me that a SB is in the best interest of some players and I don't blame them for advocating for it. But I think there's a reasonable argument for why SB isn't in the best interest of the majority of players.

Reason for using MM is VERY, VERY simple - they started developing this game in intention to be Battle Royale, probably very close to Apex in style. BR's don't need this, MM is working fine and sufficient enough. Also tha tis why they needed to remove Global Chat, squad menagement etc.
Fact, that Portal HAS a Server Browser - but stripped out of many features and not working as properly as in previous games - only confirmes that. Because they started develoiping it after turning WHOLE DEVELOPMENT in to more classic BF-style game. That is also a reason for amount of content ported/made for it.
But it's all wide spreaded knowlegde now.

EA and DICE care about one thing, profits. Every decision is fiscally driven. So any player-focused pro/con is irrelevant because they do not care nor make their decisions based on what the majority of the players want. BF2042 is a poster child for that.
Also, just from a player's perspective, I never had an issue joining a server with a server browser in any previous title, yet I am constantly "waiting for players" in the MM queue in 2042. Sweats are gonna sweat, there is nothing stopping them from quitting and rejoining until they find an "easy" server; and MM prevents some players from playing at all due to low regional player counts.
Also, a Server Browser doesn't remove the Quick Match option, so most of the points are moot anyway.
