Darts usually get ''washed off'' quickly by the countermeasures/flares. It's generally useless, unless fired at from really close range and a teammates instantly locks on to it with M5 (not javelin, that takes too long to lock on).
The darts in Bad Company 2 were way better IIRC.
- ATFGunr2 years agoLegend@UP_Hawxxeye The main reason I stopped using it, especially after the nerf, but really it was because nobody was shooting at the vehicles (or people lol) I tagged. Shooting it just to T1 isn’t enough to justify its use. Maybe if I have every other gadget I’ll do that… and I’m not sure I’ll do any of that!
Yeah, interesting gadget, lots of potential, but every time I've used it I've walked away wondering why? Too many drawbacks compared to SOFLAM. And for vehicle stopping ability simply running Ewelina spamming G-84's and AT mines is going to be more productive.

It seems that we all agree that between the SOFLAM and the Rao hack, the current Darts are basically as useful as a Kolibri from BF1.
This is one of the times where it would had been amazing to have some official statement just like we used to get once upon a time at a more civilized age.

I decided to try the darts again.
They are a huge disappointment + it runs out of ammo
Meanwhile Rao is amazing right now:
If you use him on infantry you are X-ray spotting the target and everyone close to them (which means you can throw a smokescreen, Rao hack through the smoke then then fire at them through the smoke.
If you use him on vehicles you turn all their modules red, you spot them and everyone inside them.
Unlimited uses with just a short cooldown
- ATFGunr2 years agoLegend@UP_Hawxxeye Interesting, now I’ll have to check out Rao again. Since hacks stopped disabling weapons fire of vehicles I haven’t used him.

@ATFGunr
He is a gem that people do not know about because the game is not good at explaining all that each thing does..
He Reds the vehicle modules
He spots/designates the vehicles and those inside them.
He is X-ray spotting the hacked soldiers and their neighbors (even inside smoke)
He passively X-ray spots the enemies who just damaged him. - Col_Larsen2 years agoNew Ace
No - why should you ? You need to get close to hit something - risk of being killed. And all countermeassures counter it anyway. They should remove it from game as it is useless.
Or make it like this - the one and only thing that locks on targets and is immune from all countermeassures. Now that would be interessting and way more would use it. If you really manage to get a dart on a flying chopper and the likes you should be rewarded !
Fix the overpowered flares !
- Lady_One2 years agoNew Ace@Col_Larsen I think a speed reduction, less ammo and immunity to flares would be nice, but at the same time it should still be counterable by thermal smoke. It is pretty easy to hit ground vehicles, especially with that extreme projectile velocity.
- kregora2 years agoSeasoned Ace@Col_Larsen Nah, hitting helicopters - even at range - is very doable.
In my opinion, rockets locked on the tracer dart should be immune to flares, because they don't track a heat signature nor a laser reflection.
But with all gadgets in BF2042, there is no explanation, how they actually supposed to work.
