Many of the older experienced BF game designers and developers left DICE since mid of BFV development. And many more left them since, during the BF2042 development...
Obviously no BF knowledge transfers took place and no BF culture maintained for the new arrivers to pickup and learn from.
So DICE is no longer DICE.
The baby was thrown out with the bathwater.
And Battlefield is no longer Battlefield.
I don't. They could have shown a little spine and given pushed back.
With that said, I don't think EA is responsible for 22 guns, no scoreboard, no server browser, no VOIP.
Pretty sure that's all on DICE
This scenario reminds me of when EPIC games sold the gears of war franchise. The Coalition with all the new faces & ideas have tried to follow in epics footsteps but aren’t remotely close.
One of my all time favourite games and it’s just not the same, sanitised to high heaven & missing major old school features…. much like this BF.
EA just wants to make a quick buck then move to the next battlefield game coming out next year. Complete disaster sadly.
- @CyberDyme Doing research post playing BF2042 I wish I would have been more informed about previous BF developers leaving.
The Tom Henderson video is also shedding Lots f light on the 2042 product I purchased vs. The one I had expected to get based on my assumption from past BF games. - @gDance_TR67 I don't completely. The DICE of 2021 is not the same DICE of, say, 2013 when BF4 came out, or 2014-15 when DICE LA was working their tails off to fix the BF4 launch disaster (and doing a great job of it), or 2016 when BF1 actually made a WW I shooter fun, which I didn't think they could. So many of those developers and managers from the older Battlefield glory days are now gone (many off to Embark, which is announcing their own new game today).
The name is still DICE, but the cast of characters is very, very different. While I think that pressure from above at EA is a huge part of BF2042's disaster of a launch, management at DICE itself is also responsible.
The people I *do* feel for are the ones in the trenches, the designers and developers who could see the writing on the wall about what was happening but were powerless to do anything about it, other than change jobs.
