INB4 Dice creates an excuse of having runaway AI in the BF2042 universe that tries to kill everyone :D
- Kyosji4 years agoSeasoned Ace@UP_Hawxxeye Can't say anything about the grenades, but that's how a lot of companies extinguishers work, especially in technological and cooking areas. It releases inert gasses like nitrogen to put out the fire instead of water. Unfortunately, we cannot breath inert gasses, and some can be quite cold.

@KyosjiI see. Then, they need to at least make the grenades immune to the gas damage
- Kyosji4 years agoSeasoned Ace@UP_Hawxxeye I've never personally seen that happen in the gas. Kinda want to see if it's true. If they're treating the gas as a physical object for the sake of it dealing damage, that's an issue for sure.
- UP_Hawxxeye4 years agoLegend@Kyosji I think it is less about it being treated as a physical object and more about them taking damage and detonating from the gas.
- Kyosji4 years agoSeasoned Ace@UP_Hawxxeye Is it only under barrel weapons? Grenades don't get triggered from the gas.

Also they seem to detonate underbarrel grenades so if you are under its effect, the grenades you fire will explode in your face instead !!
Suppression systems that use halon are quite commonly used in computer rooms, etc. and I'm sure that's what they are trying to model here. It doesn't leave a residue which protects electronics from being further damaged. When the agent is released it can be very cold causing frostbite, etc. but it doesn't leave a residue which can cause further damage to electronics. It is really unhealthy to breath though and not just because of asphyxiation.
We had them in our computer rooms at the electronics company I worked at for 30 years before I retired. There were warning signs and even alarms with flashing lights specifically to alert people not to enter that area if there happened to be an event that triggered the system.
.....but I guess these days halon is being phased out in some places due to its ozone depleting properties in favor of more friendlier CO2 systems, etc.

Like the annoying gas in BF1 the area of effect seems bugged, the visuals are not really matching the area where you take damage.
On hourglass, fighting over the objectives inside the stadium and these sprinklers constantly doing damage/impairing vision, is not really doing anything good for the game. It is just feeling stupid and it should be removed from the game in my opinion.
Dice has a habit of putting these weird mechanics in their games and they just get really old very fast and ends up being part of the annoying things about BF-games.
