Is there a way to upgrade from the Standard edition to the gold edition?

@SuperSenpai-v2Yes. You can still buy the Gold Edition but you still have to pay full price for it. If you already accepted the gift than I think it's too late for your friend to refund it.

I would try calling Steam directly and talk to them about it but either way you would still have to pay full price for the Gold Edition.

Contact Steam support.  They might be able to credit you toward the "higher" edition, but I still think it is unlikely to work.  @SuperSenpai-v2 Did you already accept / redeem the gift?

I have this same question.. got a WD Black promo drive with a BF2042 standard key and want to upgrade it to Ultimate..

yeah, i accepted it as a gift as i presumed it would be like fifa where you could upgrade your edition. i'll still try talking to steam, but like you said, seems unlikely to work.
