I do agree that it was not the most... predictable feature in BF4. I sort of liked it and hated it at the same time.
@TankerFlanker I generally agree with you, but I would make a strong exception for panic knifing... random point and shoot with a knife hoping it connects should reward jack-squat. - @SeXy_drunkcat I can live with or without it, it's not a deal breaker for me.......however, my preference would be no.

I don't remember exactly but I thought being knifed from the back you couldn't counter. You could only knife counter someone knifing from the front right?
I don't remember it being a deal breaker for me either but if I remember it right above then I wouldn't worry to much about it. What I hate is the bayonet charge! It was a feature that I liked about BF4. It doesn't bother me that they include it in the new battlefield, as long as the attack can only be countered from the front.
- @TankerFlanker Well, first off I'm pretty sure counter knifing only works if being stabbed from the front. I have never been able to counter knife if I'm getting gibbed from behind 😉 Now, if my situational awareness is on point and I hear someone come behind me and I whip around I've been lucky to counter. Rarely though.
- @SeXy_drunkcat I've never had a problem with it working properly. It's just sheer luck or skill most of the time if you pull it off.

Probably not. Hasn't been in the past two games. They changed melee to do a flat damage value and if that damage resulted in a kill, it would play the glory kill. I think it's a better system and leads to some frantic knife fights.

BF4 system is flawed, I agree.
Would be interesting to have a timing based counterattack system where if attacked you had a small window to counter and if you did successfully then the attacker has a chance to counter counter but with a smaller window and that would go back and forth with a progressively smaller window until someone misses their opportunity and subsequently is killed.
You could make it so attacks from the front had the largest counter window while those from behind had a super small one making it rare to achieve.
Another option is to take the human element out of it and just do an RNG:
Front Attack
34% - Attacker kills Defender
33% - Both Attacker and Defender are killed
33% - Defender kills Attacker
Side Attack
66% - Attacker Kills Defender
17% - Both Attacker and Defender are killed
17% - Defender kills Attacker
Rear Attack
95% - Attacker kills Defender
4% - Both Attacker and Defender are killed
1% - Defender kills Attacker
Also, hope we get proper knife animations for kills against units manning stationary weapons.
