Joystick Support
I'm considering pre-ordering as I have for past Battlefield games but wanted to know more about any details regarding support for joysticks. I find flying with them is much better but support for the...
DICE?
Thanks
I reviewed the fixes for the updates coming tomorrow:
BATTLEFIELD 2042 UPDATE #4.0 (ea.com)
NOTHING about Joystick or HOTAS support.
DICE/EA??
Why can we not use Flight Sticks like x52 for planes?? This is nonsense.
Not having joystick support is just another missing core element which is helping drive players away from BF2042.
Installed update 4.
Zero HOTAS/Joystick support.
You had almost 6 months DICE/Ripple
SIX MONTHS.
It seems extremely elementary to include at least key-binding for additional controls aside from primary.
Nope...nada.
Yes i was really hoping for a simple controller update too. Or rather remove the controls that dissallow our hardware to work correctly.
Not only does EA think they can force us to become console players.. lol ... but here are some other details i've seen on the console version. stop reading here unless you enjoy wine.
A friend bought the 100$ BF2042 for Xbox prior to launch. Aside from seeing how BF has been degraded to keep PC gamers on par with the console effort... they totally botched the console port as well. This friend who i play CoD with has never been into the BF franchise.. i had hyped him up on this release & he jumped in & wasted that 100$ only to find out, that their "cross platform" title BF2042 is not actually cross-platform. He can not play w/ PCs or the "next gen consoles" he is left to play a crap game with... nobody apparently. He needs to pick up a new console to play with us. Needless to say he "hates EA with a passion" now & to that i say,.. "welcome to the club bro". I've not been happy with EA since they lost the ability to track player progress back in BF2.
Not only is it NOT CROSS-PLATFORM but the game is so stripped down it's pathetic. It actually runs ok, and looks ok however with 64 max servers all the maps are reduced in size.. it's nothing like PC or the better PS/XBOX versions. it should have been marketed clearly as a stripped down "able to run on crap hardware" BF game... Instead they just pissed people off for good.. again..
The failures are not just in attempting to make PC gamers fit some oddball console mold proposed by board members or some other nonsense... they cant even get the console versions right! I really hope they get their * together as i know many others would as well.
-i think they will add or unblock support eventually seeing how they just got VoIP into the game. if you go play CoD the amount of polish on that franchise is amazing..
Right now we have a core game that could become a awesome building block if they add in some of these basics, and if you have the hardware to run it properly of course.
I am still forced to use keyboard & mouse + a xbox controller for transport vehicles. if i try to use keyboard when i arrow left or right it does mouse-look left and right. i can not decouple this & it's so annoying to have to drop the controller for keyboard when jumping out of a boldt for instance.. i mean wtf... /end rant
My logitech 3d wingman joystick works fine now. They have a section in option now that says joystick since 4.0 patch. I am able to bind all my joystick controls there. The problem i see is that for the PoV N, S, E, W you have to hold the middle mouse button still. I don't see any way to stop having to hold the middle mouse button in order to get it to work? Anyone find a work around yet for freelook controls? So check again. Mine works fine.
wait I shouldn't tell possible enemy pilots of ways of having an advantage over me. Stupid me 😉....
They're trying to push out the "OG" PC gamers I feel, that's the only thing that makes sense at this point. No longer about freedom of control preference. That's what made this series great.
What freedom of control? I mean it has gamepad, keyboard, mouse, and joystick support now. Nothing wrong with ogs though 🙂
Thank you for the completely-worthless-logic-injection Copernicus.
If you read my prior post instead of taking latest one out of context, it explains that the most common flight sticks used in this game series since its inception, the x52 and x52 pro, still do not work despite the addition of "joystick" and split keybinding.
The X52 and X52 pro get auto-recognized as x-input when the stick is not x-input thus preventing the ability to map under "joystick".
I can set the joystick buttons but nothing works in game. Any tips?
This is the same problem I have. Some of the most common sticks are being force-recognized as X-input and they are not.
Tried:
X52
X52 Pro
G27 Logitech wheel (x-input for steering is the only thing that works, none of the buttons work)
Now BF2042 supports joystick im so happy

It's refreshing to hear good news, glad it's working out for you, enjoy 😉
Tried with the X52 pro.
It still does not work.
I have an Xbox Series X controller for use for ground vehicles and an x52 pro for planes/choppers.
The X52 pro still does not work, you cannot assign buttons. It conflicts with mouse and keyboard.
I don't know why this is so hard to fix. This is the only software where the x52 is not recognized. It's asinine.
The X52 is perhaps the most common flight stick.
Video showing that X52 pro does not work.

I even tried blanking the profile tool in the case that was conflicting.
Nothing.
I have moved on from this game. It was a bust. Arguably the worst of the series ever. The ineptitude of the developers to pay attention to previous games is crazy.
I grew somewhat hopeful with Joystick support, but appears to be lip-service.

Also uses Saitek x52 pro.
That was one of the reasons why I did not buy the game. It's ridiculous that it's still not fixed.
That's mega disappointing I thought that it was all sorted a while back.
I use a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro and it's been working fine so far; I don't know why one joystick would work but another doesn't?
@Ironhead841Yeah it is strange isn't it, and very frustrating for those unable to play.
Hell man I can barely pilot anything WITH a joystick, lol.
