There charging way to much for an online only game, let's he real here
- 4 years ago@HawkeyeAM47 There is a lot of fun online, but imagine a person has no internet or just wants to play alone without internet. Bots save this.
- 4 years ago@Mephiticshepard I've been playing Battlefield since 1999. The very first Codename Eagle after that in the Battlefield 1942, Vietnam, 2.2142 lineup. But after the release of Frostbite and console support, they removed the bots as the consoles were under heavy load.
You're wrong, Battlefield was a single and multiplayer game. - ChrisAWJBethel4 years agoSeasoned Ace
@Mephiticshepard He wants a way to play the game without having to shell out extra money for an Xbox/PlayStation subscription. Why do I need to explain something so obvious to you?
@rouvio Wrong. The original Battlefield games could be played without an Internet connection. They had bot support so players could keep playing the game after the servers were shut down. How did you not realize this?
@dogking57 When and where did DICE say there wasn't going to be offline bots? Can you provide a source?
@TTZ_Dipsy They did?! When did they say this?? Could you please direct me to where they made this confirmation?!
@AristarhUcolov2 Exactly! Tell it like it is, brother
- 4 years ago@ChrisAWJBethel I mean, first mistake is playing on a console. Second mistake is assuming anywhere was mentioned regarding the console sub fees. As someone who plays BF only on PC, it's blatantly obvious that those undertones are not so obvious because on the Frostbite engine, it's brought out to it's fullest, on a PC, with a mouse and keyboard, gpu, monitor, and sound card.
The main complaint of the OP is being able to play offline with bots. Right now, game is online only and multiplayer only with bots only serving a role to fill up slots on DICE hosted servers. BF2, Vietnam, 2142... I didn't know anyone who played them offline against bots during downtime. Most looked into what was being updated and studied the fixes and nerfs during that time, or were working or were in class.
Now, when servers are officially shut down permanently, that generally means there's not enough population on them anymore, resources are too old for upkeep and too expensive to replace, and it's more worth while to put more effort into the current title instead of a 10 to 20 year old title rather than make 1 person out of 1 million happy.- ChrisAWJBethel4 years agoSeasoned Ace@Mephiticshepard Ah. A PC Master Racist who never considers the financial situations of other people. Brilliant. I see you also drank the 'gaming is better online' Kool-Aid as well. I could bring up multiple arguments as to why consoles are more accessible to people but you're not gonna listen to me or consider my points, so I'll save you the trouble. I sincerely hope you are aware that not every gamer plays multiplayer on PC and that even though you have to pay to play online for consoles there are still cheaters/hackers there. You mentioned something about GPUs and graphics cards, like graphics automatically make the game better. I don't care about the graphics. I care about playing the game for as long as possible once the servers shut down or the playerbase leaves the game.

I knew you'd say that. Only a PC gamer who plays online would say something so selfish and egotistical.

As i do see your point. I dont think its really that much of a big deal. The problem is now days it dosnt matter what game you buy you cant play anything if your not connected to the internet. Look at black ops cold war. You cant even play the campain if you lose internet commection, and even living in a high end nabourhood, in a fairly busy city, in a 1st world country not every street in my nabourhood has fiberoptics internet. Does ot really matter if other people grind out there challanges all alone offline. If they can again grind out all tgere challages, online in a map set to only bots. I believe the technologies we have now we should have decent to good a.i. bots not like back in the day when bots could just stand there shooting the wall.
- 4 years ago@4g631g I both agree yet still see that as a problem.
It's not necessarily my own internet speed I am worried about... In fact my family just upgraded to something faster than what we had before and it is beautiful 🙂
However it's the stuff we can't control that has me worried. And with that I am talking about the DICE and EA Servers when they are broken.
Titanfall is a good example of a game that is completely unplayable because of it's server problems on EA's end. Yes it's an older game but the point still stands.
We simply want to make sure we could still play with the AI Soldiers even if the same thing ever happens to Battlefield 2042.
And the only solution for that is making the Solo Matches with the AI Soldiers available offline when not connected to the EA Servers.- 4 years ago
Both sides are correct and here's why:
Having access to a game you bought is a requirement. It must be fully functional in, at the very least, the foundation of the game. So if it's a fps for example, it just doesn't make any sense to not utilize an offline mode/bots.
However, in this case I do believe that there is a reason that (at least these bots) cannot be in offline. It's likely they are being run by the EA Servers, if that makes sense. As in, the bots might have to actually be contacting the servers at all times for whatever reason.
Although, PORTAL definitely needs to have offline components because, that is the obvious choice for playing with bots in an offline environment, or the closest version of it we might get currently. Just think about what it would be like to run 128 player server on your own machine. The CPU power you would need to just register all of the physics and such going on would be staggering, at least I think. Of course I could be talking out of my back but I imagine it has something to do with how difficult it would be to run the full experience and host it on your own machine especially on console.
However, that doesn't mean we shouldn't have the option for that. If not at launch then it would be nice later.
- 4 years ago@Mephiticshepard *Bad Company 1,2 and Battlefield 3, 4 have entered the chat.*
I agree with OP, allow us to play offline, but not progressing our character, lvl, or weapons.- 4 years ago
My thoughts exactly. I would love to be able to play offline with bots if I was going somewhere I didn’t have an internet connection. I couldn’t care less about progression. Or at worst give half xp for offline matches if people complain about that. I would like to have the ability to save portal modes to my device for offline play as well. I’m really hoping this will run fine on the steam deck.
