Does matchmaking take skill, rank, etc, into account? Does that actually affect your gameplay?Just like with the AI bot difficulty level, when they matchmake, are they also leveling the playing field for novice users?It just feels that way sometimes. I go from a round of 30+ kills and 5 deaths, top of the scoreboard, to barely breaking even and none of my hits are registering.At first, I was thinking it was tick rate, lag comp, and crossplay, but could it also be something to do with SBMM?

@Adamonic I don't think BF has ever had skill/rank-based matchmaking since they've implemented matchmaking? Even with persistent servers it seemed more than team shuffles were largely at random rather than using some balancing algorithm to attempt to even-out teams in a one-sided server.And honestly, I'm not sure if it's even practical with the way that BF is designed and how inconsistent matches can be. Especially with 128p, tracking how much of your performance is down to yourself vs. the impact of your team would be a nightmare.

And definitely don't think they're doing anything in terms of attempting to balance out squads given how random squad placement (or lack of placement in active squads) seems to be.I don't want to say a, "It's too hard!" thing because I'm out of my technical depth here, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was very much a, "There's simply no practical and efficient way to accomplish this with a positive result." Some things like this would be great, don't get me wrong! But if the investment would be having their engineering team spend months exclusively working on this even with 50/50 odds of it having the intended result, that's not really feasible. Lame, but it's a practical consideration and figuring out how to best use resources.

@edgecrusherO0 so it is completely random? My thought is they have some if/thens built in when you are in queue. I rarely get stacked with S ranks in my squad. So I was thinking there may be more to it than we know.

Or that type of algorithm is beyond their skill level.

As it stands right now the system can't even keep the players on your blocked list from joining your squads.

@Adamonic i don’t think there is any skill-based matchmaking

every time when there is a bigger sale i have players with low ranks in my squad (below level 10-20)

imho the goal of this matchmaking is to fill up the server with human’s player and that quickly

The only thing that i have observed was a team shuffe before the start of the round

I think the only restriction is the region that has been defined by EA\DICE

BF introduced SBMM in BFV. I believe it still exists in BF2042. It's not as strict as some other games. But, it does exist. It was talked about by Battle(non)sense in some of his Youtube videos explaining and testing BFV netcode. Chris had direct communication with some of the developers back then who confirmed it.

SBMM doesn't play much of a factor if there is low player count for your playlist in the region you are playing in. it can only really work effectively with a large enough pool of players.

@DigitalHype i think in EU we have the most active BF2042 player base.

if there was SBMM i should see the same players more often but more than 90% of the time i have new players in my rounds

and if i turn on cross play i would say that 99% of the time i get new players each round.

and with SBMM i should never see player which are lower than level 10-30.

With active SBMM also players with level 10 or lower should see more bots before they see players with an S Rank.

The only thing that happens in BF2042 (in my observation) is that a balancing of teams happens on the server before the round starts and not when you hit the search button. And if there are premade squads the balance of the teams is most of the time way off.
