Question why it has to be always 32 64 or 128 players like computer numbers?

I mean, why can't it be 40vs40 or 50vs50 that has to be 32 vs 32 or 64 vs 64, why? If devs and people wanted more than 64 you could always do that but a bit less than 128 because the player base now ...
