Re: BF2042 XP Soldier Progression and Ranking Up

@CyberDyme All looks quite appealing to me as well...

The fact that they are including the "S" levels seems to indicate, to me at least, that they are planning on this game having a long life...

    Hopefully the player card can be a cool dogtag-like addition to the game. I’m sure there will be some predictable unlocks for this for reaching certain achievements: reaching a certain rank, maxing out a specialist (if that’s a thing). But I’d really love to see some rewards for completing really hard achievements, not connected to playtime but to skill…and make them challenging. Like getting 20 kills on an objective w/o dying, going 60-0 in a vehicle, rewards/unlocks that are as unique as they are challenging. Hopefully we get some of that.

  • @carsono311 In fairness (and not that i genuinely think Dice hate their customers), the part of me that goes "of *course* it's starting to pour down now that it's almost, but not quite below freezing" has come up with a few ideas for what the "S" might stand for.

    Being slightly serious for a second, it does seem that they're hedging pretty hard on this not being another BF5, but probably better to see what we get at launch before we call if they *really* "learned" anything or not.

    Conversely, i'm also not going to throw my toys out of the pram during beta if there's something to the gameplay flow i'm not thrilled about, as it's.. a beta, adjustments can be made.

    I'm honestly more worried about getting that feedback through during/after the open beta, at least on the forum, as i suspect the amount of repeat threads and general spam on here is going to get interesting once we're past that point vs what we have now.

    @Fringerunner Yes, that will certainly happen.

    Additionally, I have found that most casual or self-serving “testers” will take the time to make a laundry list or write an essay on everything they think they saw wrong and/or the things they did not like, instead of taking the time to actually create bug reports…

    So yeah, take good notes and/or record your play sessions!

    @carsono311 Agreed.

    Unfortunately I believe there will be some who will want changes that only suit their playstyles instead of stuff that would make the game better for EVERYONE.
  • @carsono311 I thought they were talking about possible releases swapping over to every 2 years, granted that would be nothing new or not anything the series hasn't seen before.

    @gruntbrews_vicv Could be, but I really do not see that working out for the Battlefield series. It also seems a bit at odds with the “live service” model that EA DICE are so eager to figure out…

    With Battlefront in the mix as well, I would hope it stretches to once every three or four to allow for truly original, well designed games, but I doubt EA DICE would do it.
  • @carsono311 I see a ton of potential for Portal lasting on and on as long as they wanted to continue supporting it, whether or not BF2042 itself is set to that obviously we can't know for sure.
    I forget about Battlefront, I wish they would make those more along the lines as the OG Battlefronts. Regardless, I certainly would prefer more continued support. Not that I don't mind cosmetics, I would like to see more additions of weapons and maps and such on that front.
