Re: It's impossible to defend in breakthrough.

I've been on several defensive winning teams but it does rely somewhat on "good players" as well. In many of those defense wins, the team started the onslaught immediately against the offensive rush. When you don't do that, and the offense gets dug in, it's hard to come back from that.

  • @Phugazi Then you simply had a good team

The attackers have a shorter respawn timer and the concentrate all on one point.

    As defender you
    - spawn very far away from your objective
    - have a much longer respawntimer
    - don’t have any worthwhile vehicles to defend

Defenders should have all objectives barricaded since they are allready there, instead they run to theyr objectives like they are playing king of the hill with the enemy team.

Also defenders should get all vehicles from the getgo since they have to deal with an incoming army who rush to one objective.

And lastly they should have the same respawntimer like the attack team.

Normaly I would say that they should add barricades and cover on possible flank areas for the defending team but most maps are so damn open that it is almost pointless to do so.
Mackay and Sundance are a topic on its own and how they just ignore the entire mapdesign.
  • @Phugazi With the matchmaking, both teams should be balanced, I don't know how you and your team are playing, but I haven't won many BT games as a defender.

I just joined a BT on Exposure, player count 35 attackers to 29 defenders, and of course I am in defense, and just like normal, 5 or 6 players are coming and going the entire match.

Needless to say we got steamrolled but how is one team getting more players than the other?

I saw a few cases where it was impossible to attack in Exposure BRT on the first sector.

The attackers on the first sector need either more cover or more vehicles

@Adamonic A lot of players leave when they see they are on defense. Its bad for their stats or they just like being on the overpowered side.

Who wants to be on defending side when you already know you've lost before the game even starts 🙂

In that case, play Breakthrough on Exposure.

There, attackers never win (well, almost never if the defenders are at least somewhat competent).

But independent of which side is favored by bad game design decisions: those one sided matches are rarely/never fun. Neither for the winning and especially not for the losing team.

I played a game last night as defender and the team was an absolute fortress.  AA was good.  Vehicles were getting Soflam and destroyed.  Attackers couldn't push through.  Had the hill covered and the flanks. They must have been hating it.  They only challenged the first sector maybe 2 or 3 times and were taken out within a matter of seconds.

Wish we had persistent Servers as would have been good to see if that was a true fluke and whether the attackers would have learned anything in following attempts.

@DuaneDibbley This isn't true at all. Exposure doesn't change any of the core issues with breakthrough unbalance and in the case of vehicles it's even worse than the base maps. The defenders rarely get even a single vehicle to aid them against the attackers.
  • The reason is because most of the time the defending Team is to stupid to understand that they actually have to stay on the Point they want to defend and not waiting around it while it's getting captured

@DuaneDibbley Exposure on Breakthrough is the same, with half the attackers team playing with Sundance, it's impossible to defend.

@theBus2142 Yeah, when you have 1 player on the objective, it is not that hard to cap for the attackers. Then half the defending team rushes over there leaving the other point wide open.

Defending takes a lot more coordination than attacking.
