Re: Remove Auto-heal from Helicopters

Honest question, in what way has this strategy changed from the classic modern combat battlefield titles? In my view this is how it has always been done. Go into the fight retreat and repair when it gets heavy and then return to the fight. The only difference is you used to be able to have 2 repair guys in the back of the little bird and you were nearly invincible if you had 2 in the back. Do you guys want that to return? I would love it. The old repair torch was always incredibly effective the new one is not effective at all. You can’t repair the nightbird from the inside at all and when I land and repair the torch just sucks. I use it anyway but it is awful compared to the classic titles

@Joe234567891011 I think you can repair from the back, as I’ve done it. The sweet spot is crazy small though, and hard to consistently hit especially if the pilot is jinking a lot. It’s like up, back, and left (or right if on other side)

@ATFGunr   It really doesn’t work well at all the spot is so small it may as well not even exist it can’t really be hit while in motion. When you finally find it the repair is so slow. It’s easier and faster to land and get out to do it. In bf4 you could keep it going easily while in the air and it repaired fast with 2 people

Full removal is overkill.  But I understand the frustration of finally connecting with a stinger only to have the heli fly off and return 20seconds later like nothing happened.

With good pilots you basically have a 3-5 second window to deal a fatal blow - anything less is just wasted ammo.

I think some sort of attrition mechanic should be explored.  Maybe a hard cap of 300% cumulative self heal.  Or perhaps only being able to self repair 90% of damage sustained.

I also wouldn't mind if certain flags in conquest provided a 'repair aura' to nearby air vehicles when their team controlled the flag.  That should help make friendly air and ground forces feel better connected, something that Battlefield has always struggled with.

Pilots (helis, not jets I guess) could still fly back to out of bounds or base and jump out with a repair torch to fix the vehicle. So removing auto-heal would at least prevent them from coming back and * everyone right away.

Another option would be to increase the delay until auto-heal starts and also decrease the auto-heal speed. Both would work.

@Joe234567891011 I agree with you 100%. Since a dedicated group could fly and wrench and just beat the heck
out of players in 4, I think it’s an effort to make it less able to do that in 2042. I’m not adverse to it anyways

@DuaneDibbley To stop this they could allow players to bail from vehicles outside the playable zone, but not be able to re-enter.

nothing should auto heal not even soldiers.

Of all the auto regen in the game, humans are the only things that do, just not at the rate the game plays it.

That being said, healing has always been a part of FPS.  Personally, Armor/Air is so OP, giving them auto regen and regen bots seems moronic to me.  I do thing people should be able to carry repair kits, but make em disposable.  After 100 points repair, you need to stock, like maybe Angel could add this to his drop.

    Full removal is overkill.

Agreed, but BORG technology is overkill as well.  My suggestions would be

    1. Remove all auto regeneration.  This isnt BORGfield 2042
    2. Must exit vehicle to repair (which means youre not moving)
    3. Require the player to have a repair kit in their gadgets.
    4. If more then one player carries repair kit, speed up repair

All these are usable, workable, and not OP

That is another thing, Out of Bounds is OUT OF BOUNDS.    The timer should run on everyone there, not just the opposition.

@Padding_Ur_StatsUnfortunately for any who may not like them the current settings are what is most popular as well as the mainstream settings of BF3 and 4

There are probably better games to simulate gritty realism

  • @UP_Hawxxeye

People will adjust if the change is made. I quit initially because of the evisceration of Casper. I did come back because my buddy said it was a bit premature of me to quit because of 1 specialist being removed.

    I was forced to agree.

Armor right now more then any other time is mindless clicking. Bring up the map in any game and the only time big armor moves is

    1. They take a hit on recoil
    2. They take a hit from air

They literally do not have to move and frankly they dont.  Only bad pilots were stationary before Casper was crucified.  Now, just about all of them are.  It is actually a bit humorous when two tanks just sit stationary firing at each other.   I am just sitting there watching thinking MOVE, COME HERE!!!!!!

Nope, they just sit there because Theyre a tank!  Theyre indestructible

@Padding_Ur_Stats any situation where a vehicle feels safe being at that place is a map design issue and not a vehicle issue.
Like how in BR mode the defenders on the Manifest maps have their final zone unlocked from the start and overlooking every sector including the first one.
  • @UP_Hawxxeye There is a difference between map issue and exploiting. This is exploiting. It isnt about feeling safe, it is about knowing the enemy cannot get there.

    @Padding_Ur_Statsdifferent name , same issue.
I am trying to say that people should look into the cause instead of the symptom.

A map done right also limits the impact of mechanized assets without making them worthless overall
