Rebalance of sniper ammo and/or adding ammo crates around map? - Update 3.2

With the latest change in BF 2042 getting access to ammo if you are overwatching objective from a distance you will run out of ammo relatively quickly, especially when using anything but extended magazines. The reliance on having a support player nearby isn't really practical in reality when it comes to any medium to long range shooting, and there is no guarantee that you'd get a support player in your squad regardless. Having to rush an area that is hostile and in combat as that is where your team is and hoping someone dropped an ammo box to refill, doesn't really work. It's fine encouraging that squad play, but it needs to consider the realities that come with what actually happens.

Not adverse to the class system change, but there has to be more changes than there were to accommodate the changes to how the game is played. In fact being pushed into a more recon role with the gadgets works quite well. But seems there are a lot of changes that are working against facilitate snipers actually being used at range, rather than close range quick scopes. Having an engineer have to build one or one being present at objectives would be fine, and a re-look at some of the ammo values for snipers with low capacity magazines should also happen. Was definitely a plus of Battlefield 5 being able to find ammo at certain locations on the map.

Haven't heard this being discussed much and is probably more a niche request. Actually sniping at range has been a staple of Battlefied and seems with the lack of ammo access, poor scope reticules with proper increments and no zero that they aren't really supporting that concept anymore which is a shame. Not sure if others have noticed this or not or whether they have spoken about it.

  • I personally think some of the capture points should have ammo dumps on them. They replenish you slowly while capping an bait quicker if you hold the point. Might make more people play the points as a bonus too.

Wouldn't be adverse to that. Also means the team with more points captured has access to resources to be able to actually hold the point or go to in order to restock before pushing other objectives.

  • If not ammo crates placed in the map then it should be possible to call in an ammo cache like a vehicle paradrop.

Ammo cache could be used to replenish ammo / gadget ammo once before disappearing, extends time delay for you to call in another vehicle (as in cooldown acts like a vehicle call in) so they can't be spammed. Basically allows people to get ammo every few minutes when there is no one dropping ammo crates.

I agree they really should do something as ammo is in very short supply, I have run out completely on a couple of occasions since the update

@Ga-Knomboe_Boy Could be balanced against using a vehicle slot potentially too until it is empty or a timer runs out

Everyone does know if they switch their ammo types then you will have more ammo.  Works when in a tight spot but does no one remember how recons/snipers worked in past BF which most everyone wanted?!?  That class did not have ammo.  They relied on others to supply them with ammo.  This is the aftermath of what people wanted.

  • @NazT55 I generally agree with what you are saying but there are times when no one is throwing down ammo crates, or no one is around.

I'm usually fine getting ammo from enemies, but you can't get gadget ammo from enemies.

My idea with ammo caches as a paradrop affecting vehicle cooldown is there is a penalty for using them, you can only use them every few minutes if available, and they aren't super convenient (having to go to call in menu, waiting for the ammo cache to actually drop).

This way ammo crates still make up most of the ammo supplied, ammo caches are only used sporadically when the easier option isn't available.

Been working Mackay to Tier 1.  I keep having to redeploy because I run out of ammo.

The Idea of sniping is a solo game.  Unless they build into the Support Class a spotting ability that allows sniper greater accuracy.  Sniping today is 2 people, not 1.  The support then could drop a crate.  Of course, people do not want this because sniping is so irritating.

Personally, I think they really missed the boat with the Assault Class.  They cant use rockets or carry ammo.  Seems contraindicated for the class.

@Faydakin1983 Resupply stations on control points are a horrible idea. Resupply is the purpose of the support class. BFV already took that away from supports and medics, we don't need that again.
