Redacted is a good map, but it doesn't replace Locker or Metro

Redacted is a good map, it has more dynamic movement than Locker and Metro, but I don't think it's a replacement for Locker or Metro.

Locker and Metro spent part of the time fighting for a flag, it was necessary for the team to get in sync at some points to be able to advance. In Redacted, there is no such synchrony or the creation of a small strategy to advance, as there are many paths across the map, most of the match both teams are always running from one flag to the other, there is no planned work together between the players, because the map was not designed for the player to think about resolving an impasse to advance a flag, this map was made for rush.

Furthermore, Redacted has a lot of details, vegetation, rooms, equipments, alternative paths that I can't remember (and the paths are not clear on the minimap), several spots to camp.

It's a pretty map, but it's not clean and objective like Locker and Metro. It is ideal for rush, not for conquest, there is no fight for flags to make the team win until the end of the game, there is only a fight for kills, if we take a flag, it is later taken back by the enemy team, because the diversification of paths on the map causes a flag to be captured without the previous one being captured, this also happened in Locker through the snow, but it was balanced, and required a lot of teamwork to be able to advance to a flag without having to capture the previous one.

If DICE gives us another map for Portal, I hope it will be Locker, but there should be a vote among players.

  • @leonardoleonwf Its what made Metro and Locker so stupid gameplay speaking. All 64 meatbags are funneled into same 2 corridors and stay in one place tossing explosives at each other.

On Redacted there is actually tactics involved. You have to keep an eye on opening and all the different corridors because if a single dedicated squad sneaks past you, there will be alot of problems.

It's a good point of view, but in practice I don't see this happening, there are so many paths, so much rush, that I don't see the team adjusting to create a strategy, What I perceive is reactive gameplay.

It's an interesting map for rush, but the proposal to be a replacement for Metro or Locker doesn't make sense, the essence of the gameplay is not the same.

@leonardoleonwf The fact that you don't see it happening has nothing to do with this map, it's the common lack of teamwork which is present in Battlefield nowadays. For that same reason Metro and Locker wouldn't work either nowadays, as you won't get your team in sync.
At least Redacted provides for escapes to people that don't want to stay in the brainless explosive spam and revive trains.

I understand your point and appreciate it. However, I think that in one way or another Redacted doesn't have the same essence as Locker or Metro. It is a map that arrived to add value, but not to replace.

It's great to play Redacted, but some of us would like all that explosive spam from Locker or Metro, I confess that at times in BF4 it was annoying, but then I would choose another map, and then go back to Locker when I missed that style of game.

I think similar to hardcore, I'm not a fan but sometimes it's interesting to play. I think it's worth presenting maps that appeal to different styles, in addition, BF4's Battelog is full of Locker, more than other maps, so there is a very high demand.

Yep I agree with this, there's little better feeling than sneaking behind the enemy lines and back-capping their home spawn A/D location and then they have to split off and re-take it, giving your team a chance.

I loved Metro and enjoyed Locker, but I will fully admit that the stalemate at B in Metro wasn't great gameplay, as much as it was great for leveling with revives/resupplies/grenade launcher kills/etc. You would get the occasional good flank with some teamwork, but most of the time it would be stuck.

I'll say that redacted, on the few rounds that I've played so far on breakthrough is a complete slaughter at A. The closest I found was the flag half-taken then taken back by defenders. Maybe more tactics will come around or something, but it really doesn't seem hard to lock down the 3-ish paths to the flag from the defense side. Maybe it opens up more after that point, but reminds me a lot of spawn camping in Metro in the subway or the base where it is damn difficult to push out of those locations.
