Yeah doesn't make any sense to me either.
With the player base shrinking they really need to make it easier for all players to get into matches.
There is nothing worse than endlessly waiting for lobbies to reach the required number of players, only to see players give up in frustration.
Imho we need one player starts, backfilled with AI in all game modes in both AOW and Official Portal Experiences.
I am noticing a big drop off in player numbers compared to even a few weeks ago.
Imho the fact that players are having to sit queueing in lobbies to reach the required minimum players to start, is resulting in players simply giving up all together out of frustration.
I really believe it is time to introduce a single player start (backfilled with AI) to both AOW / Official Portal Experiences so that all remaining players can get into games.

Reducing the number to start sounds like it would work.
I strongly believe that something needs to change soon to avoid an even bigger decline in the already rapidly shrinking player base.
It doesn’t help that there are so many different playlists.
Players are scattered around, waiting in all these different playlists.
The past week it was something like this;
Close combat Conquest
Conquest
Breakthrough
TDM
TDM on Haven
TDM Greatest Hits
Some player-created game mode
Some sniping game mode
1942 game mode
and finally Portal.
