Specialist or not, I don't care much, but I like that we now get two new slots for equipment/skill. I liked some of the new stuff there, like the proximity warning of the sniper dude and the grappling hook of the assault dude.. anxious to see what the rest of the specialists will bring to the table.
The friend or foe identification must be improved and I think the devs have confirmed it will be. You don't need to remove specialist to obtain that.
As for customizable load-outs, I see freedom to choose as a good thing. To me the core of BF has always been the freedom to play as you want. One day a frontline infantry cannonfodder, another day a sniper.. or tank driver.. or pilot.. or medic doing revives only, or a sneaky spec-ops deep behind enemy lines (last seen in bf2 where team had assets to be blown up in their home spawn.. good times!) Now I can choose even more ways to play and are no longer restricted by what somebody else thought was a good idea. The old school classes in BF was prone to change from game to game anyways.. and someone was always unhappy about how it was defined. Now everybody can be happy and play the "class" they want to.
Chasing down a support class, jumping up and down in front of him trying to persuade him to drop a ammo crate, is not great team play.. and the ability to 'E'-grab the ammo from the support guy is even less so. The "great team play" in BF has always been up to us, the players, not specific class setups.
