@I_DYN4MO_I Well I've watched the reveals and now I've watched jackfrags reveal and I'm scratching my head at the amount of praise the new map is getting.
It's looking completely meh to me.
Same boring buildings, same desert, same interiors.
Why can't Dice build a village map like the amazing ones we played on in V?
Why are so many flags just a boring selection of concrete walls, boxes, crates, containers, and an uninspiring building dotted around the place?

I'm happy for it. I don't really care as long as the flow is good and I can have fun on it.
- @GrizzGolf I do agree that when all is said and done if you have fun on a map it doesn't really matter about the style, art etc but I hope we see more interesting maps next time.
I just remembered a podcast with a dev contractor who was brought in to help 2042 reach its release window (obviously that failed)
But he pointed out that making minor changes to something as simple as putting a dot above an enemies head had a significant impact on performance which shocked him.Kind of embarrassing how JackFrags praises "scripted destruction" of some really uninteresting walls in the first 60 seconds. Seems like some paid advertising...
The new map basically looks like the small mountain section on renewal and that is one of the worst maps ingame.
- @Tank2042Man that might be due to the underwhelming map experience in 2042... with maps having been so abhorently bad for the most time (even after reworks, looking at you manifest and Kaleidoscope) that mediocricy seems now like the 2nd coming of christ and christmas and easter on the same day.....
@Tank2042Man This has been the trend since BF1. They did a little bit better in BFV. But its the worst it has ever been in BF2042. I believe it all comes down to corporate greed.
I remember a DICE dev talk with David Sirland 4 or 5 years ago, where he commented on this. It was in response to the BF1 maps being so open and rural and how they were going to have more Urban/City maps in BFV. He seemed slightly annoyed by the players desire for urban maps. He almost groaned when he commented about how they were so expensive to make. And he was talking about financial cost not compute resources.
If you go back and look at the maps in BF4, there is a lot more uniqueness and detail in the design and artwork. And the variety of the aesthetic and atmosphere between maps was signficant. It really felt like different parts of the world and was much more immersive. Too often people confuse fidelity of a shiny new engine for detail and art.
