Transport Choppers

Hello, I hope you are doing well,

I am making this post in regards to the Super Hind and Osprey, but more so the super hind. 

The super hind is simply over powered - it's tanky, can be repaired while mobile, and it has 3 guns. I know the cannon has been nerfed as far as infantry goes, but it still just destroys air vehicles with small opportunity for counter. The main problem with the super hind is that because it has all 3 of those aforementioned things going for it, it is not a true transport vehicle! It's an air fortress of doom, that encourages 2 people to sit there with repair tools to rack up tons of points.

When compared to the transport vehicles in battlefield 4, the difference is astounding - in BF4 the transport chopper only has 2 miniguns, and its health is a quarter of what the super hind has. It takes one maybe two shots to bring down. There's actual counter play!

tl;dr

So what I'm suggesting is that we either A) make the transport choppers MUCH weaker B) Remove the mobile repair function (which is not a good route) C) Remove the 50mm altogether because it's impossible to balance

  • if anything the condor is just not on the same level as the hind. Biggest weakness of the condor is his hover mode. with the nerfed weapons the hind is OP against it.

  • That is exactly what i've mentioned many times. Condor is strong but hindi again is way stronger, cause its on the move all the time and can control its speed from 0 to max without any delay, + maneuverability on sides and make instant U-turn. The biggest problem is, it can simply enter battle fearlessly and can hide behind objects or actually fly inside orbital rocket bay. Jets are okay counter, even tho you can't really pull it down with one run cause of weak speed control and jets are not balanced with each other. So i could take F35 and waste helicopter spawn and then drop dead because i'm no match against SU. These are little things yet they play huge role these "differences".

    @l--ElekTr1C--lI totally agree. I think the best way to balance it would be to lower the amount of health it has by a big margin. If we gave the condor more health it would be insanely op. The Super hind is just impossible to balance when it has a 50mm cannon on it and tons of health - one has to go.

  • One of the first things we want to look at when we consider balance is check if the weapons that are supposed to be strong against the target are working properly. In checking the figures I noticed a long time ago that the IR and Radar missiles have horrible damage profiles against the Transport Helicopters. The IR missiles do 14 per shot while the Radar's do 8.6. The Wildcat IR missiles were recently boosted to 24 damage and given a fast lock time and the ability to fire in rapid succession.

    However, the Jet and Attack Heli versions are still awful and coupled with a 1.5 second lock time and long delay between being able to fire the second missile the result is an indisputably underperforming weapon that, if boosted, would do a lot to help counter Transport Helicopters.

    The other big issue is the on board repairs. They are RIDCULOUSLY fast. It repairs at about 2.8 damage per second. Within about 5 seconds you can totally negate the damage done by an IR missile from a Jet or Heli.

    I would propose:

    • Approximately double the damage of Jet and and Heli IR missiles against Transport Helicopters from 14 per shot to 30 per shot and for Radar missiles from 8.6 to 15 per shot. 
    • Reduce the on board repair tool rate for Transport and Nightbird by 25% for the first repair person and 50% for the second person so that there are diminishing returns.
    • Remove the ability to fire AA and and AT weapons from the passenger seats or at least give us the option to turn it off in Portal.

    I think the combination of these changes will help Transports and the Nightbird to return to the intended roles of Transportation and Light Air Attack respectively.

  • Hell, the Transport chopper in BF4 could be taking out by single tank shell or a well placed RPG. The Super hind eats tank shells and RPGs don't even rattle it.
