Why is Casper the worst character?

Battlefield 2042.

I usually like to play sniper. However this Casper character what is he? Hes not a sniper thats for sure.

He has a ghilliesuit. Still he is fully visible and non hidable whatsoever. He has a green ghillie suit and a blue one. To even think about hiding in that snowmap is out of the question.

He  has a drone that is slow both to fly and to spot. And the reach is about an armlength. That would be ok. If the fact wasnt that to use it he will have to 'hide' close to the enemy. That would be ok to if he only could hide... And for the obvious reason that he shouts out the location of people spotted. Why? Why is he shouting?

The NTW-50 should be one hit, one kill. If he can penetrate armor on tanks he should be able to penetrate bodyarmor and take out the soldier he fires upon. Body armor should only protect finecaliber rifles. Not NTW-50 a vehicle  deestroyer. Especially since they other characters run around as it was weightless. Let Casper be dangerous too. Why not? The helis are dangerous so you have to take cover. Casper fires his gun BOOOOM. What happens? Nothing! Oh someone is shooting on me. Look theres casper hiding in a bush with a clown ghilliesuit. Its a 300 meter shot. Ah well and i only have a peagun...pew pew. Casper is dead. Really? Is that how its supposed to be? Instead of making him at least half as cool as the other characters?

The proxygrenade. Why in gods name couldnt he have two? Because he would be of some use for the team?

In 2042 the sniper cant hide, remain unseen. And for sure he cant have a rifle thats better on distance than a peashooter. If youre gonna keep him like this you might as well give him big shoes, a big red nose, yellow hair and a big trumpet.

This is a general disappointment Im sad to say. I played everything that had the battlefield name on it since 2005 when bf2 was released.

  • I T1'd Casper and his drone in a matter of days - it's all about finding the perfect spot to set up shop (lay down on the very top of the draw brige in Koleidoscope and you'll easily get 500+ SOFLAM/drone spots for example. I'm on console so I tend to stay away from snipers but I remember them being super OP at the start, plus the fact you could drone stuff tanks and make people cry.

I use Angels snowman suit in all maps so I don't think the wookie suit matters all that much but I get your point even though all the pokeballs/drones/wallhacks make them useless anyway imo. We did have 2 pokeballs but the amount was nerfed because they were getting pretty ridiculous

  • So you want to be an invisible sniper with a 1-hit kill weapon with no counter?

The NTW is pretty much already a 1 hit kill weapon, just has major bullet drop which is why I prefer the DXR or SWS10 for long range headshots.

Hiding shouldn't be that hard, the maps are basically tailored for sniping so not an issue either.

The drone is great for getting assists and spotting other snipers but in full combat you're better off actually sniping instead of using too much of the drone.

If anything, they should just make better and more level appropriate skins for the characters... They have a white/snow camo for weapons but not for the players.

The only one with white camo is Angel's special skin. Well, to be fair, I usually skip Breakaway because its my least favourite map anyways.

I think they made it so you have to get drone spots specifically, not any spot. I know my soflam spots and such don't count towards T1. As for the C4 bombing, yeah I can see them nerfing that. Feels really cheap to use (but hilarious) and feels really * to get that done to you as a tank. But at the same time there's sometimes when that's the only way to kill a tank. Cause they're sitting 150 m away surrounded by open ground and on top of a hill. So nearly impossible to kill them with a rocket without them running to heal.

But overall I do agree with the post. Casper's main goal is to be a spotting machine. Which feels really awkward in the game to sit there. I've also seen quite a few times people get in arguments over chat over people "farming with casper". I will forever standby my goal of saying that when playing casper, you should get no scope glint when staying still. Fits his character perfectly (centered around stationary), fits with his idea of an off combat utility player, and allows him to compete with the two other main sniper heroes (mackay and angel)

  • okay, sure we can play that game....
if you want the NTW50 to be as realistic as you want it to be then lets make it so. the NTW20 weighs about 30KG and needs two people to operate so lets make it a squad weapon, you will need an additional player to use it ๐Ÿ™‚

and to move it and reassemble you need the same player... since one person can not carry it for long periods :3
also the moment you fire that thing you should, since it is that powerful a cartridge, be spotted across teh entire map from the sound alone.....
    sounds fair to me :3

oh and it should only be usable if prone..... self speaking the recoil alone would most likely know you off your feet if fired and moving and most likely dislocate your shoulder :3

  • Oh yea i forgot. The scope which can be seen from from every corner of the map.

Just another example of copying COD. COD MW had the stupid scope glint that gave a sniper away at all times when in the aim (even inside apparently the sun glints off them). Sniper rifles seem to be next to useless compared to assault rifles (which to be fair don't seem to be as good as some SMGs at times). Balance could be created by having a slow aim time, reducing movement speed (but do the same for other people with heavy weapons such as LMGs). They could have restricted ammunition, but the specialist system prevents it as anyone can carry their own unlimited supply.

When someone with an assault rifle is more effective at range than a sniper rifle, it makes them pretty much pointless. In BFV, a sniper would go into the aim, only to be hammered by tanks that could magically see them from the other side of the map. Nothing changed other than the rifles getting worse.

Amazing how in the future snipers will forget what a kill flash is (and apparently strap a flashlight to the scope), use under powered ammunition that drops off at the range an assault rifle can use iron sights and use magic suppressors that reduce range (they don't).

@X-Sunslayer-X Sorry, but you seem to be very confused on your facts.

Yes the NTW20 is listed as 31 Kg, but does not need two people to operate, although would yes, usually be split for carriage. However look at something like the GPMG/M240B where 12.5 Kg may not seem to be much in comparison, but consider ammunition weight. a 200 round belt of 7.62 weighs about 5.5 Kg, so if you were to carry the gun and 800 rounds, you are around 34.5 Kg (although ideally split to a number two, that does not happen in game).

However your biggest confusion seems to be over caliber of the rounds you are quoting, which makes a massive difference.

    • The NTW20 fires a 20 mm round (essentially the same as a cannon on an aircraft or a rifle grenade).
    • The NTW50 in 2042 fires a .50 cal round (half inch not 50 mm) or 12.7 mm.

The rounds on the fictional NTW50 would weigh much less and require nothing like the heavy barrel, etc of the real weapon, meaning it would be lighter than the NTW20.

While I would not recommend doing it for accuracy, a .50 can be shoulder fired, but due to the weight of the weapon accuracy would probably suffer. It would not knock you off your feet and a trained soldier who knows how to hold a weapon would not get a dislocated shoulder from firing it (but I believe ALL weapons in game should take a massive accuracy hit when moving).

There is a video of someone (Not trained military) shoulder firing 50 cal snipers below.

As for being spotted because of the sound when firing, if it was the only weapon being fired, you could get a general direction (in built up areas with reflective surfaces, that can be hard). In the middle of a firefight, with your own weapon, your squad mates and the other enemy, you would have no idea it had been fired.

The huge maps cry out for weapons with realistic range. a 9 mm round is lethal at over 100 m, 5.56 mm is an easy hit at 300 m with iron sights and a 7.62 mm rifle considered to be effective at 500 m (lethal a much longer range than that), yet in game a sniper rifle starts to lose effectiveness at 150 m?

Insurgency sandstorm do it much better. Up to 100 m a bullet hits instantly with no drop off. A round of any caliber to the head is a kill. Hold your finger on the trigger to fire full auto and accuracy goes out of the window (It rewards a stable firing position and short bursts or single fire). They also sort out the ridiculous Warzone type armour problem by considering the velocity and caliber of the round, some will go through (may reduce the damage) some won't, but the fact you are wearing a plate carrier, does not protect your legs, just where the armour is.

@Trokey66 Yes, but not the COD searchlight version we now seem to be seeing. In BF4 long range sniping was possible and you could aim without being instantly visible to everyone.

In BC2, I used to enjoy being a counter sniper. Now sniper rifles are badly hobbled for range and accuracy and the glint more obvious, meaning someone with an assault rifle simply aims at the glint and opens up without even being able to see the sniper. The restrictions on the sniper mean that a slightly less accurate faster firing weapon with a larger mag has the advantage.

Pulling in effective range to essentially close quarters, means that many weapons become pointless and you get the meta develop (even worse with the specialists like Angel).
