My understanding of the servers is that they only start up if players are attempting to join. Maybe it was an off day with not a lot of players? Servers activate on demand. No demand = no servers.

One of the worse ideas ever
- cso77772 years agoSeasoned Ace@GrizzGolf The problem is that if they had 100 servers running with 5 players in each, it wouldn't be much better.
I'm not a fan of how things work, but if the playercount is not big enough to keep servers running, it doesn't really matter.
Dice needs to make a proper game, that can keep a healthy playerbase. - JOGAGATYA2 years agoSeasoned Ace@cso7777 How come BF4 still has all the DICE servers running? Last night i was able to access all the servers and modes even if i was the only player on that server/map.

I think this is a matter of how the game-server-system is designed.
BF2042 has been designed to minimize the costs of running the servers (hosted in AWS) and by using forced matchmaking, they can keep the number of running servers very low, in reality only the required number of servers for the active number of players.
BF4 was made in another time where Dice/EA probably hosted the servers themselves and they don't have forced matchmaking. They have to keep some servers running all the time, to make sure you can find some servers in the server-browser. If they cannot just start and stop servers quickly, they have to have some 'extra' capacity (servers) running at all times.
The game feels alot better now but many people left to play other games because it took so long to get it where it is now. Plus many of us don't like to run around everywhere and vehicles take too long to reapawn i.e (when they used as a transport and people just leave them miles away out of bounds)
Also while running around you'll have about 10 or 15 snipers taking you out with impossible headshots from long range.

I’m in oceanic usually we get 1/2 full breakthrough games every night at best or usually one full game and one game half ai half people.
At worst just one game with a handful waiting in the next game waiting for the lobby to fill up. - kregora2 years agoSeasoned Ace

All true, but I believe we don't have a server browser and servers, because that was unwanted for Hazard Zone.
There is no need to a server browser for a mode where max 4 players can play together.
It is sufficient to only have party chat.
It is okay to have specialists.
And I believe what most people forget is, with a server browser you could easily guesstimate the real number of players.

Absolutely. Don't need any of those things for a Battle Royale or Extraction game. Just baffling decisions from the top down.
