Why isn't Battlefield 2042 still coming to cloud gaming platforms?

We all know the reaction of the game, but people like me who want to play the game and don't have a console and a powerful computer are waiting for the game to come to cloud gaming platforms. Considering that the game must be purchased to play the game on cloud gaming platforms, releasing the game to cloud gaming platforms will have a positive impact on game sales.

I always wondered if that's even working properly.

On a normal PC/console you have the delay from your device to the server and back to you.

On cloud gaming you have a delay from your input device to the remote device to the server to the remote device back to you...

The additional delay usually can be compensated for, the issue is, that the games own compensation usually doesn't work anymore when the remote device to server latency drops below 10ms. Atleast this it what player report that streamed from virtual PCs, so I assume that the experience will be similar for Stadia or GeForce Now.

I more imagine that the current issues with getting ingame VOIP working across the already established platforms might become even more complicated when more are added.

  • The cloud gaming platform I use, I play BF1, BF4 and BF5 with 24 mbps internet speed, although it is not very good in terms of image quality, it offers very fluent gameplay.

The same reason people aren't buying this game or have quit playing on PS, XB and PC won't change.  The issues and reasons will still exist regardless if they have a few more sales in cloud gaming.  IMO, it's a distraction they don't need right now as there are far more important things they need to focus on right now otherwise there will be no game left to save.

Sales will increase if or when EA / DICE takes the necessary steps to attract players back to the game / franchise.

  • Google probably doesn't want to pay for DICE to port it, and I'd be surprised if they could port it without a considerable amount of effort that would take away from any work done on the game now.

Cloud platforms don't make squat for money. Like, at all. Nothing sells on Stadia. The only reason many games make the jump is because the team gets paid by Google to bring the game over (usually not a ton, but enough to make some money). It's unfortunate, but that's the way it is with cloud right now : /

@OskooI_007 The tech does exist though, and it works/is used in a lot of games to varying degrees of success.

Comparing it to controls for a rover on mars is impractical and impossible. Designing systems that can predict latency to reduce its impacts should it hit in gaming - where we're talking about miliseconds worth of input lag - is wildly different than designing one that tries to account for the 20 minute delay it takes to communicate between the earth and mars.

@edgecrusherO0 Every input lag test I've seen shows cloud gaming has higher input lag than PC and console. I'm interested in learning more about this input prediction technology. I've never heard about it actually being used.

@OskooI_007 It's used in a lot of online games already, especially multiplayer games. There are a number of systems designed to attempt to account for latency issues and resolve them with minimal impact on the overall game. I'll have to find it, but there were some super interesting deep-dives I read in the past on a few different methods that have been used.
