Why were the stock maps designed the way they were?*EDIT*
**EDIT** Just played the redesigns
imo this game had so much potential to beat CoD or at least be an even better competitor. Also imo the map design is what killed this game.
Never mind the bugs, lack of attention to detail compared to BF1&5, and performance.
When I played the beta the objectives were so far apart due to the lack of flags (and/or design) on such a large map even though there were 128 players and there wasn't enough cover. Even more far apart than in BF2(2005) and BF2142(2006). I think one of the maps from the Armored Kill DLC in BF3 had just about as many flags as BF2042's stock 64vs64 maps and that's 32vs32. The maps are even bigger in 2042 and there's twice the player count so why weren't there more flags/bases or have the current design from beginning? Daqing oil fields in BF2(2005) had 8 flags. 😕
Even on the largest stock map in BF2142(2006) it takes nowhere near as long to go from one flag to the nearest other flag on foot before the reworks. Maybe on Highway Tampa it takes a little longer than what most people would like? Still nowhere near as long as BF2042's stock maps before the reworks.
Note: I just bought the game last week so I'm guessing the maps might play out differently with the redesigns? I'm just sorely disappointed that this game doesn't have 200,000+ concurrent players on Steam on a regular basis and I don't want to see Battlefield die.
