Will BF2042 become the best BF ever or are we too demanding these days?
Personally I am totally hyped for this next BF version!
Older versions with 'modern' weapons got me hooked to this franchise, but the two most recent versions BF1 and BFV left me highly disappointed with the lacking overall gameplay experience. Reason why I am soo much looking forward to this next 2042, as it will be with a modern world setting, weapons and vehicles. But probably also why I and many out there are worried about if we now truly get what we have been missing so long from EA.
Granted we are all different and every single player out there have their own likes and dislikes. So no matter what EA does launch to us, we wont all get everything we want.
Weapon mechanics has been raised as subject already by many here on the forum, and for good reason... Its like every single game from EA in the franchise have had its own very different sensation of weapon handling, ballistics etc... Personally I liked a lot the BF4 modelling, though also here the constant boosting and nerfing of the various weapons and vehicles from update to update left me frustrated with many along the way... This was by the way repeated also in later games and ultimately the reason why I personally dropped BFV. Enough of that madness as the updates were not updates. It was like we got entire new weapons every time, back and forth many times and the weapon balance still not any closer...
We are all also excited about the largescale battles coming here, with huge maps and up to 128 players. (or did we miss to listen to those that do not want this?) Aka we still see many custom servers on large maps running with limitations of 10, 20 or 32 players max, despite the std is maybe 64 players on those maps. And for good reason, because the game dynamics, the skill set and what are more powerful skills/weapons is very different all depending on the type of battle you most frequently engage in on those maps. Its like trouble attract even more trouble, so will we see pileups now of 14+ tanks that cannot even get out of base spawn due to bottlenecks and all want to drive to 'that special spot' for easy tank kill harvesting...? Expect also to see all infantry piling up in a few hotspots, while rest of the great map may lay deserted empty. Who cares about PTFO to take/keep enemy flags, if its easier to harvest a lot of kills somewhere else on the map with the other 100+ players? Would be interested to see/hear how EA may build in some regulatory measures on this?
Btw, did you notice in the game demo trailer, you could actually see on the map before you decide to spawn in, how many friendlies and how many enemies were already in the capture point area, so very helpful to support the choice on where to go for those of us that do play for the assigned team/squad objectives. :o)
Regarding the AI Bots then its both good and bad news to me. Definitely very concerned in how present they will be in all areas of this next game, as honestly I prefer by far to play against other real players. Even if it means that the player count goes quite low on larger maps. To me the AI Bots should only be the absolute last savior to keep a server alive for me to play on, if truly no other real players around to fulfil the minimum requirements. To balance the two teams or fill up to the large scale 128 player maps, then ok. But they should be kept to the minimum. I get the most fun when starting to recognize some of the other players around me, either on my team or the days where I see them on the enemy team side. I dont see an AI Bot having a specific individual personality, but maybe that is wrong by me to think so? But it is definitely among my biggest worries in how this AI Bot feature will be implemented and felt like in the 2042 gameplay.
Big worry is also the soldier classes and now the super hero concept. Don't see why we need a named persona instead of us just customizing our own class soldier based on personal preference. And what is the point of now all soldiers can just pick any primary and secondary weapons and gadget. Why say goodbye to the classic soldier classes like the epic anti tank hunting engineer, the aggressive assault, the dedicated medic or the support helping with ammo and claymores? Apart from the persona specific gimmick, are we now all just part of the same grey mass and no class definition, with no clear role or purpose? In previous versions, we knew all how effective specific roles would be for given situations and also how a squad mix of roles should be to accomplish great things together.
Last but not least, I do fear the worst with regards to the game assignments, as EA have had a long history of poor designed assignments. Just ask any EA Support member here on how many questions posted here with problems directly linked to these in the game. And on top, many of those assignments through the years have been weird at best. And many not at all contributing to positive gameplay either. Latest BFV was no exception to this...
Darn, I want this next BF2042 so bad and to be so good! But...
Do we demand too much, are our expectations too high?
