2042 - now detecting steering wheel/pedals as soldier controls?

I'm playing on PC, using mouse/keyboard for controls.

When I load in, my soldier is looking directly upwards, and I can't look down - I can spin. This has happened in past Battlefield games, as it seems to see my steering wheel and pedals as input devices.

In the past I just cleared the controls, but now that's not working. Any ideas?

Note that I can't unplug my wheel/pedals, as doing so requires me to re-bind the controls for these every time due to the way Windows assigns USB controller IDs. I'd really like to check out Season 3, but currently the game is totally unplayable.

It's absolutely amazing how tone deaf the "help" is here. What game in existence forces you to climb behind your desk and PC, rip out god knows how many cables just to play the game properly. It's not a Windows issue. Yes. Windows is absolute dog$hit at handling USB controllers/devices, but every other game seems to be able to manage just fine without resorting to such time consuming and disruptive "solutions".

I, on the other hand, have a solution. An annoying one, but a solution nonetheless. Download an app called HIDHide. It can cloak all your connected USB devices from the PC, or from various apps if you choose. You will effectively have ZERO devices connected to your PC as far as Windows and BF are concerned, and you will be able to play as normal.

The annoying thing is I ALWAYS forget to enable before I play. Which means the first lobby I join results in a loss when I realise I have to leave the game to enable it.

Honestly, how we have survived this far with awful suggestions to problems is beyond me. Imagine a developer receiving advice from an electric company, for instance, that the only way their work PC would function as intended was to run around their house every morning and unplug every device connected to a wall socket. It's absolutely insane.

That is not the game that is doing that, that is Windows.

Unfortunately, we are unable to assist with refund requests here via the forums. If you would like to check if your purchase is eligible for a refund, I would recommend getting in touch with the retailer where you purchased the game.

Also having the same issues, only solution so far is to unplug the devices which as you've stated doesn't work as this results in having to reprogram the devices which simply isn't an option due to how complex they are!

Baffled to see the responses here blame the user and equipment when the ONLY game that has these issues is Battlefield. None of my other games pickup my wheel or pedals in this manor, even rebinding all key binds/controls within the settings couldn't solve it.

I've played just about every battlefield since launch and 2042 was right up my street, but Christ it is so broken!

Turns out it's a Frostbite issue - same thing happens in Battlefront 2, and NFS Unbound.

EA, fix your damn game engine, embarrasing to see this bug still exists.

  • You sir, are a legend. That is the name of the app I've been trying to track down - I had heard of it, but could not remember the name. Thank you for providing the best solution to this issue - but EA still needs to fix this decade old problem with Frostbite.
