BF2042 Crash No error

Hi all,

Not played this game in years, upon returning in prep for BF6 i've found I can no longer play. If i start the game in full screen mode the game loads fine, get's to main menu then after a few seconds just freezers and CPU usage spikes to 100%. If I load in windowed mode I can search for a game but as soon as the game begins to load in, the game freezes again with no error. I've tried the User.cfg trick, deleted and reinstalled both the game and all my drivers, done a clean boot but cpu  and verified gamefiles usuage still spikes to 100% and causes issues. Tried every single forum and reddit suggestion and still nothing works.

Does anyone have an ideas before I just give up on it? Don't want to have any issues for BF6 I've attached both DxDiag and crash dump files.

Hey, correct I do have a 6750 XT. Driver downgrade doesn't work either.

0xc0000005 is usually a RAM memory error. Try disabling any RAM overclocking in BIOS such as XMP and EXPO.

Upgrading motherboard BIOS might help too.

Nope, still crashing. Literally only game I have issue with is 2042, everything else works fine and runs smooth

  • Same issue here, both BF2042 and also the BF6 Open Beta (freezes in menu).
Issue started after enabling Secure Boot.

On Steam, since todays install and setup of BF6 Open Beta, BF2042 crashes at the full title screen before entering main menu whenever the loading crosshair indicator appears at the center of the screen.

I tried to verify gamefiles, repaired EAAntiCheat, deleted BF2042 settings, deleted various caches and temp files ... but nothing

BF2042 creates a 3 MB encrypted crashdump each time, which I clearly wont share here on public. BF6 Open Beta runs without issues.

  • Hi all,

I can't open the BF6 open Beta, however, following solved my BF2042 issues; Reddit

  • I've found the same post yesterday and it also fixed it for me.

I've also been testing and playing with these settings and narrowed it down to "Randomize memory allocations (Bottom-up ASLR)".
As soon as I disable it, everything works. All the other options aren't needed (in my case).

Since changing these settings may compromise your system security, I would advise to only disable the options needed to make your game work. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES DISABLE THESE SETTINGS GLOBALLY!
