Same issue here, on PS5.
At one point (around 0.4.0 maybe) it felt like, ever so briefly, it was working better. Now though with 1.0.0, It is noticeably back in a state of not working properly. I sense no aim assist whatsoever in moments it would be most useful, and will make it impossible to track moving targets sometimes (depending on the magnification and distance).
Every so often I notice aim assist kicking in fairly strong at the worst possible time, such as when aiming through a building window and door and hard-scoping someone who is about to pop their head out. Then my scope will suddenly shift to move with them and take my aim off my intended pre-sighted location.
It really is a bummer.
