Battlefield 2042 cause damage to GPU

Dear EA Support,

I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out to provide further details on the ongoing issue I am facing while playing Battlefield 2042, despite exhaustive attempts at troubleshooting.

After investing 2-3 hours into gameplay, my monitor abruptly turned off, and my computer became unresponsive. In an attempt to rectify the situation, I switched to an alternative monitor, reinstalled graphics drivers, experimented with both old and new driver versions, reinstalled necessary libraries, and meticulously cleared caches. Despite these efforts, the problem persisted.

Undeterred, I took the drastic step of reinstalling Windows, setting up everything anew. However, to my disappointment, the issue remains unresolved. This exhaustive troubleshooting process, which included various monitor configurations, driver installations, library reinstalls, and even a complete operating system reinstall, has not alleviated the problem.

To summarize the steps taken:

  1. Monitor Change: Attempted gameplay on different monitors.
  2. Driver Manipulation: Reinstalled graphics drivers, experimented with both old and new versions.
  3. Library Reinstallation: Reinstalled necessary libraries for the game.
  4. Cache Clearance: Methodically cleared caches associated with the game.

    MY PC:
    RTX 3060TI
    i5 10400F
    16GB RAM
    1TB NVME SSD

The persistence of the problem even after reinstalling Windows indicates that the issue is not localized to the operating system but may be inherent to the interaction between Battlefield 2042 and my system configuration.

I am prepared to provide any additional information, logs, or diagnostic details you may require to investigate this matter further. Your assistance in resolving this persistent issue is greatly appreciated.

Given the substantial time and effort invested in troubleshooting, as well as the resulting damage to my video card, I kindly request your assistance in resolving this matter promptly. Additionally, I would like to discuss the possibility of compensation for the incurred damage to my hardware. I understand that technical issues can be complex, and I appreciate your dedication to resolving them.

Best regards,

  • Hello @WeLLKOT
I'm running a similar setup here but with a bit better cpu 12600kf with 3060 ti also,
For reference i run on a 2k display but i had to switch back to 1080p scaled because gpu was running too hot now i average 70 celsius with undervolting capped at 1800 mhz for 950mV and up. With custom fan curve ofc, damn graphic card would be runnig too hot otherwise
    I have no such issue.
I'm prolly not the best out here but i'll try to help you<

I've read your Gpu-Z Log sensor and it points at either a cooling issue or a component on your graphic card that is running far too hot
Your graph shows an average temp of 70°c under 100% load and at the same time you have a hot spot of 105°c
Your computer is probably shutting down your display for security reasons

If you're savvy enough i would recommend you to check your fans cleaning it then repasting the card

If not, i would reccomend STRONGLY to not do that and bring it to a professionnal that is well versed in micro-soldering

    Hope it helps, regards.

  • "I've read your Gpu-Z Log sensor and it points at either a cooling issue or a component on your graphic card that is running far too hot "
either way you have smth running too hot

  • Also you didn't specify if it did it on other games, did you try or is it specific to bf 2042 ?
Maybe your other games didn't put much stress on your gpu, try using Heaven Benchmark it puts your gpu under 100% load since the issue seems to be happenning then on the previous log. Try the same parameters i've linked and do another log with it.
If your display shut down again it should be an issue with your gpu.

Thank you very much for taking the time to give me such an inflamed answer!

I would like to note that I also had this problem two years ago, as soon as the game came out, my computer was just after a service cleaning with thermal paste replacements and so on. Then the monitor also turned off, but not as quickly as now, I could play longer, I thought it was a bug in the game and deleted it, and for two years I didn’t know about this problem until I downloaded Battlefield 2042 again, where I got it again. Below I will attach the log file that I just made, maybe you will see something in it

  • Right, so the results are consistent with yesterdays log sensor.
We still have a hot spot of 102°c, not good.
Admitedly i didn't notice some little things yesterday x'D Had a bit of brain lag since it was 2am lol...
Fan curve is not the best but ok tier fan are at 0% t=until 50°c where they go at 50% speed then gradually increase a little bit above the temp of your gpu until reaching 100% speed. so the problem isn't likely to come from here plus your fans rpm seems good (100% for ~2500rpm should make a hell of a noise).
You also seems to have a Memory Clock issue you average 1750Mhz under 100% load which is low to say the least. On a 3060ti you should be at around 7000 Mhz. But all of this seems to stem from the same problem which is one of the components that seems to be defective or that will die soon if you put too much stress on it.
I would recommend to go see a professionnal who can micro solder gpu ask for an estimate of what it will cost you. depends of chips pricing and labor cost i guess.
Another (costy) one is to change the gpu.
AMD or Nvidia are both good, admitedly you can have a better bang for your buck with AMD currently.
for AMD RX 6650 XT or higher
    For Nvidia 4060ti or higher
This is based on your current gpu the two cards mentionned up here are more or less equivalents of a 3060 ti
Well i guess have fun now :<
It's always annoying when your hardware does that kint of [Edit - Admin.]
