Battlefield 2042 crashes to desktop

I am having quite some trouble getting the game to run. It is through Steam. Windows 11 as well. It mostly worked fine until recently. However, with like the last Nvidia GPU driver, Version: 566.03 it takes upwards of a dozen tries to fully get a game going. I am more often just having the game close or crash and go back to my desktop. I went back to an earlier driver, the Version: 565.90 from Oct 01, 2024. It works more often than not.

Some of this is due in part on the flakiness of the game. It is well known for its share of bugs etc. I have done a good deal of troubleshooting already. Just to get it working most days

.

Recently, I had been doing a ton of driver reinstalls to sort out a different issue. That being things like the high CPU usage that is a "known issue." I run Corsair's iCUE software, which is currently having issues leading to it crashing. While they have just released a new version this past week, it sadly did not resolve the issue.

When the game crashes, it creates crash related files like dump files among others. A few times, the game launching or starting up will reboot my PC; which is scary.

However, sometimes I get a popup error message, which I am attaching. It says, "DirectX function
"m_s3s12PipelineLibrary1->LoadPipline(HashStrDx12(key), &desc, FB_IID_PPV_ARGS_&pipelineStare))" failed with E_OUTOFMEMORY("Direct3Dcould not allocate sufficient memory to complete the call."). GPU: "NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080", Driver: 55585.
D:dev\Tnt\LocalPackages\RenderCore2\2.04.00-ks\source\platform\PcDx12\PipelineLibraryPcDx12.cpp".

I have an Intel Core i9-13900K, an MSI GeForce RTX 4080 GAMING X TRIO, and 64GB of RAM.

I have spoken to the tech support folks at Nvidia as well as posting on their forums. Plus the game forum on Steam a number of times.

I was not sure how to contact EA's support people

Updated post to add a DxDiag file

  • @socialwaif Did ya flash the latest bios ? This for the stability issues with 13th and 14th gen cpu ?
Some people got this issue solved with a other machine-id in registry !
Make sure ya updated all drivers (chipset drivers and MEI firmware to).
What Asus board do ya use ?
Check windows for any errors with SFC /SCANNOW

    Update us please !

Opps. I thought I included my mobo when I listed my sysystem specs. I have an ASUS ROG Strix Z790-E Gaming WiFi.

I know I need to update the Bios. I am planning to do it by Wednesday. I had been waiting for a non-beta version of the Intel microcode. I believe I updated other drivers maybe 1-2 months ago. However, I am not sure what the MEI firmware you are referring to is.

I had yet to think of of using SFC and /scannow for this. I can't say for certain I have tried it yet.

It looks like the SFC /scannow may have fixed things. It at least reset my Windows logon sound. I did also finally get around to updating my system's bios

Definitely sounds like a defective 13th gen Intel CPU. Intel extended the warranty to 2 years on 13th and 14th gen CPUs due to manufacturing defects.

Oxidation and over voltage leads to CPU degradation. @Rokebo73 is correct about BIOS updates being rolled out in order to lower the voltage being supplied to the CPU. If you received a CPU with oxidation defects or if the CPU has already suffered damage due to high voltage degradation. Then nothing can be done to solve the CPU instability issues except RMA it under warranty.

The video below shows how to select lower CPU voltage profiles in BIOS. If the CPU is still unstable after selecting a lower voltage profile, then it might already be damaged by voltage or oxidation degradation beyond repair and needs to be replaced under the two year warranty.

You can also try lowering RAM and CPU frequencies to stabilize the system, but replacing the CPU under warranty is recommended.

  • I'm having a problem with it crashing during gameplay and going to the desktop. I've got a brand new Xbox Series x everything is updated. This is the only game I'm having the problem with
