Just found this thread as I have the same issue. Last time I played was about a week or two before the end of season 6 battlepass. And everything was alright. And then I've tried several days ago and today and got this problem of black screen and returning to main menu after matchmaking. Since last time nothing changed for me (same PC same Internet provider), maybe some windows updates though.
I've tried a VPN and it connects and works normally, but I have terrible ping when using it.
Edit: now it doesn't work even with VPN.
VPN off: after countdown I see black screen and then return to Main Menu.
VPN on: after countdown I see loading screen, and after some loading time there is loading animation (blue boxes on a black screen), and then game returns to Main Menu
