Battlefield 2042: Season 6 - Сrackling sound

Hello everyone!

I have a problem with audio in my game. After launching, the sound starts crackling after some time. The issue started after downloading the Season 6 update. I never had such problems before. I have my audio output configured through an external sound card. I tried changing the bitrate and sampling frequency in the settings, but without success. It feels like the game is conflicting with the ASIO driver. Maybe there are some proven solutions?

  • Common issue with S6. We think EA Anti Cheat is breaking the ASIO drivers. Most of us are using Focusrite Scarletts, but there has been a couple reports from others too.

The "workaround" right now is to raise your buffer size to 1024, which is not ideal as it adds a ton of latency to things running through your interface, but otherwise allows you to play fine until they can fix this bug.

I haven't fully tested a 512 buffer yet, but so far just getting to the menus has worked fine... will test more later.

They don't care. I have this problem too btw ^^ Oh yeah, also with a focusrite scarlet.

I have same problem Scarlett 2i2 2gen Firmware: 1051 Driver: 4.100.10, started after latest update, i guess, 6.2 or something.

The switching of sample rate and buffer size does help for some time.

Will test the buffer size of 1024

I hope you got to a stable workaround! I'm running firmware 1583 and Driver 4.116.9 on a 18i8 Gen2. If you can't find something that works well enough, maybe look into updating your Focusrite Control (which will come with it's drivers). I am runing sample rate 48000, buffer size 256 and have had no problems since. Hope this helps!

I'm having similar issues but instead of sound crackling, the entire computer audio cuts out (everything) when only playing Battlefield 2042 completely randomly for around 3-5 seconds then everything comes back. I don't have this issue on any other game, and also noticed this since the 6.0/6.1/6.2 update period.

I use a Focusrite Clarett 2Pre USB-C (But only for my XLR Mic). Drivers updated to latest version.
Separately I use an ASUS Strix RAID DLX sound card for my headphones (and tried another pair of headphones, same issue). Drivers also updated to latest version.

I have tried changing the buffer size on my Clarett to everything on and between 128 & 1024 with no difference to the sound cutting out, presumably because I'm not using that for my headphone output.

In terms of the Strix RAID DLX settings, I have tried lowering the bitrate from 24 bits to 16 bits with no difference and also changed the sample rate between 44.1KHz & 192KHz with no differences.

It is annoying and certainly at a disadvantage when in the middle of a gunfight and all audio cuts out at a critical point, it is somewhat manageable but obviously an issue.

  • @TechaGek Just a question, why dont you use your headphone only on the the Focusrite with your mic? and set your asio sample rate to 48000 and buffersize to 256.

Your Strix Raid DLX is also using asio driver.

The settings you are talkin seem to be in the windows sound configuration of your Strix Raid DLX interface.

If it that, there will be no difference as you dont manage the asio settings on your Strix Raid interface.

Can you manage your asio settings for the Strix like you did with the Focusrite?

48000 in the sample rate and the buffersize of 256 (its the buffersize settings only that we need to be able to manage for this sound problem).

I see some people that seem to have used asio4all to manage the buffersize on this sound interface. Try to see if you can do it without asio4all.

  • How about getting it fixed instead of me having to try different work arounds? Yes I have this problem too.
After a fe wminutes my sound completely crashes and doesn't come back. Changing buffer sizes and what not barely helps, and I am not willing to do that aqnyway since I use my PC fo rmaking music and I want the lowest possible input latency for my instruments.
Every game works fine, just this one crashses, and it's only since season six. So just fix it Dice. I paid good money for this game and I want to play it.

  • I'm having the same issue but with an Audient EVO 4. I have my sample rate set to 48Khz and my ASIO buffer set to 16 samples. At 16 the audio only cuts out at game start up on PC. Before I just had my IEMs attached to the back of my motherboard and the sample rate set at 44khz and it was every ten seconds. My EVO 4 will literally turn off and back on between the crackling on game start up but once I get into a lobby I barely have any stuttering. It hasn't gone away completely but it's better than it happening all the time.

    Spec:

    Windows 10

    Strix B550-F Gaming Wifi

    Strix 3080

    Ryzen 5600x @ 4.8Ghz

    Audient EVO 4

    KZ ZS10 Pro IEM's

Changing the Buffer size related to your device to be higher was the work around we all had previously. If you're unable to do this with settings, I might recommend you contact Audient directly and ask them to come contact EA over this (whether it's Audient needing to update a driver, or EA needing to add theirs to a white list for anticheat, I don't know).

My, and other Focusrite users issues have been solved because Focusrite community managers made an answers.ea account and came here onto the forum asking to get their drivers white listed. I believe they made contact with EA directly and worked together to solve the problem. So I imagine that's how yours will get fully resolved.

In the mean time, if you DO have access to the settings of your EVO and can change the buffer size higher, that should help. Our Focusrites were set to 128 buffers and would crackle and pop or crash our game, but setting that up to 256 worked fine until they solved the issue altogether.

I'm currently having another issue with the Audient Evo 4 but sadly worse. I'm using Beyerdynamic 990 Pro headphones on an Asus Strix B650E-I motherboard. I started off having the same issue where my audio was cutting out for a few seconds while in game, at first it was only a few times every hour but then became more and more frequent over time.

Most recently, when my audio cut out in game, it never came back and has affected my entire PC. I have tried updating drivers, uninstalling them and reinstalling them, changing the buffer sizes and sample rates through the Audient Evo software and nothing has worked so far to bring my audio back.

When I power on my PC, I have Spotify as one of my start-up apps and I am able to catch a tiny period of time where I can hear my audio again but only for 2-3 seconds then it cuts out again. So it seems as though one of the background processes that turns on after my start-up apps have loaded (I'm guessing the anti-cheat?) is blocking all audio from playing after that point, regardless of the device.

I'd really appreciate if DICE can make a fix for this, or if anybody can suggest other fixes than the ones mentioned as my PC is pretty much unusable at this point if I can't hear anything. ☹️
