BF2042 Crashing out of multiplayer - No errors reported.

Hi there,

Since the last two updates ago I'm experiencing crashing in BF2042 on PC whenever I go into multiplayer Conquest and at random intervals (ranging from a <5 minutes to 30-40 minutes), the game will freeze and I'll be dumped back to either the game menu or Windows desktop.

I'm, on PC here are my specs:

CPU: i7 13700

RAM: 32GB 6400MHz DDR G.SKill (certified as compatible for the motherboard)

Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z790 E-Gaming, Bios 904 (latest)

GPU: HOF GeForce 3080Ti

I'm disabled all unnecessary services: Only ones running now are BitDefender Services, EA Background Service, and EasyAntiCheat. The only start-up programs now running are BitDefender, OneDrive, my LogiTech driver software, and my SteelSeries software for my headphones.

Things I have tried:

  1. Repairing the game installation
  2. Reinstalling the game.
  3. Updating BIOS to latest version
  4. Clean Update of graphics drivers to latest version (531.79 which is supposed to have fixes for BF2042 crashes with 3080 series cards).

Some times the game won't even start, it starts loading and before it get's full screen it just disappears. No error messages are displayed and no errors are reported on the Event Viewer in Windows.

2 Crash Dump files are generated in the Crash Dump folder so I have those available.

I've attached my DxDiag.txt files

One thing to note, I have been able to host a Portal server by myself with Bots and the I can get in to the game and stay it no problem.

    Hi Colm,

    I am also suffering from random crashes during the game.
    Sometimes it does not crash.
    I have checked the Windows event viewer and nothing is recorded, so I don't know what is causing it.


    My PC specs:.

    CPU: intel Core i9-13900K
    RAM: 32GB 6000MHz DDR5 CORSAIR
    Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX Z790-F GAMING WIFI
    GPU: Palit GeForce RTX3080 GamingPro OC

    I haven't gotten any response from support yet, but if I get any information I will share it.

    @GIGA0821 Try changing the frequency of your RAM down from 6000 to 5333MHz in your BIOS. I did that tonight plus one other change and I managed to play for 90 minutes with no issue. See if lowering the RAM speed works for you...

    @GIGA0821 Ok, my tests of lowering the RAM frequency haven't worked out. Not sure what to do now....

    Hi,

    I tried disabling XMP in RAM and running the test, but it crashed...
    I've been playing with the Resizable BAR setting disabled as a test, and it hasn't crashed yet, but I'd like to confirm a bit more.

    Hi,

    With XMP enabled and Resizable BAR disabled, I was able to play for 120 minutes without crashing.
    I'd like to play a little longer over the weekend and check it out.

    Disabling ResizableBAR in BIOS solved the issue for me.

    If ya got issues with XMP settings in biosm then its possible ya got RAM installed thats not compatibyl with youre CPU ! (is it installed as dual channel cfg?)
    Also an issues with nvidia gpu driver 431.79 , check download page

    Make sure RAM isnt faulty <<-- mem check apps/software will not always display an error , even if mem is faulty/broken !

    I have been using the latest drivers and it didn't seem to help much for me. My memory was also on the officially supported list from my Motherboard manufacturer. I'm still testing mine, but it seems that I actually had a slight undervolt on my CPU which I forgot I had which I've reduced and hopefully that might solve my issue.

    With people reporting that turning of Resizable Bar and it then allows the game to run, either means that the problem is in the BIOS or in the Graphics Card drivers still. I think that BF2042 doesn't use Resizeable Bar as it came out after that feature was released so I suspect it might be a BIOS issue.
