BF2042 lags really bad on 1st startup, after recent updates.

After the last update when they made me switch from Origin to EA, (maybe 2 weeks ago?) when I startup my PC and run BF2042 for the first time, it lags badly on the first animated menu screen (selected player walks towards you with some cheezy dialog), and if I join a match at that point it also lags badly. It looks like if I was running the game on a old basic video card at really low FPS. If I close out of the game, and restart BF2042, it then works and plays perfectly all evening, with zero lag, around 120fps on average, and after the game the frame rates show they peak out around 400fps.

I am running i9-12900k with 32gb 6400mhz ram, RTX3080Ti, 240hz 5120x1440 Samsung 49" ultrawide, 990 Pro NVME M.2 2TB drive, and FIOS 500mbps fiber internet LAN (not wi-fi), basically all the good stuff. Game plays amazing after the 2nd startup lol

What could cause this?

@Kielbasa_yerassa I ended up uninstalling EA and BF2042 after first deleting the cache files, then I reinstalled EA and then BF2042, and the issues went away completely. Something must have installed incorrectly when the EA switchover happened.

  • @driftmotionaaron  hmmm that could be graphics settings/hz in game!
Some got it solved by manualy editing the C:\Users\Ronald\Documents\Battlefield 2042\settings\PROFSAVE_profile.cfg

Keep in mind some issues with NVIDIA driver are also possible with the reolution ya use !!!
Check additional information at the page from nvidia where ya download the driver !!!

  • Getting exactly the same since updating to the EA PWA. It always launches in windowed mode as well and i sometimes ant get it full screen. RTX3070.

@driftmotionaaron Thanks, I will just have to live with it for the moment, can't be bothered downloading the whole again lot over this 3rd world internet connection. Glad you found a fix.

@Kielbasa_yerassa delete the content of folder CACHE from bf2042 !
Its possible this cache (shaders) arent update/corrupted or something else.
Cache will update during game play, so with a low connection it could "lagg" , beaware of it , cheers !
