BF2042 Still crashing
The game is still intermittantly crashing. Especially when I alt+tab the game sometimes. It does it when theres a lot going on in screen as well like a big firefight, or fire from the rocket explos...
@eggeggsir I did translate text and it seems ya got an directx error.
PLEASE POST SCREENSHOTS FROM THIS DIRECTX ERROR PLEASE
Is this since day 1 ya got BF2042 ?
I do also see that ya got an old bios version at youre system 1.11 the newest version is 11.02 <- i would upgrade bios for cpu/mem compatibility issues.
https://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z790%20Steel%20Legend%20WiFi/index.asp#BIOS
Could ya tell me what memory part id number ya got ?
I see ya got KF556C40-16 <-- could ya check for this number at the box or memory modules it self please ! And post the FULL ID PARTNUMBER please from this memory.
I do not see this Partnumber ID in the list, so i think not whole partnumber is listed by the ID tool ya used unfortunally:
https://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z790%20Steel%20Legend%20WiFi/index.asp#MemoryRPL
I have seen issues with the CPU ya got installed and "sometimes " a downclock from CPU could help.
Ya need to downclock cpu in bios about 200Mhz lower, this means from 5400Mhz to 5200Mhz
Also make sure ya got good cooling/airflow for this cpu and in case !
Those cpu's run high temps very easy (80+ Celsius) and could throttle speed / performance
,and also could cause errors for other hardware.
If ya got Temp issue you should lower CPU Mhz to 5200Mhz or even lower !!!
Update us please !
Thank you for your feedback. I have already upgraded my BIOS to version 11.02, and I have found the ID number of my memory component, which is KF556C40BBK2-32. I did not decrease the frequency of the CPU, and of course, after restarting, I still encounter the same problem. Do you have any other suggestions or methods that could be helpful? Currently, I can occasionally switch to a game, but after finishing a game, it always brings me back to the desktop. Thank you.
I don't know where the idea of updating the bios came from, I haven't updated the bios since purchasing the computer. Has anyone tried to play with the Windows paging file (the so-called virtual RAM written to disk)? Windows automatically closes applications if it thinks there is not enough RAM (sometimes it can even do this if 60% of the RAM is used and there is no paging file on the computer). I had such a problem with others, we play on an old computer where I only had 8 GB of RAM and it solved my problem, even BFV worked for me despite having 8 GB of RAM & on my PC with 32GB ram on BFV. BFV could close to the desktop because Windows thought it had too little RAM (this happened 1 out of 10 times)
Virtual Ram is set to automatic size on windows 10 & 11 by default - unfortunately it does not work properly because the system incorrectly selects the size of the pagefile.sys file. If someone has 32GB of RAM like me, all they need to do is set the paging file size to 1GB.
How to create and increase pagefile.sys can be found here under the YouTube link:
https://youtu.be/bNXg4ncuo2g?si=-vK9BZG_rwr1FIYH&t=98
Note:
If you only have an SSD drive, do not try this option because you may quickly use up your SSD drive. Set the Pagefile only to a so-called traditional disk HDD.
Increase the pagefile.sys file until the problem disappears. For example, I set 12 GB and more.
If i Helped give me xp.
@eggeggsir DDR5 Kingston 5600 5600 16GB KF556C40BBK2-32 is supported !
I would try to lower the Mhz youre cpu is running at: it is at 5400Mhz , just lower it to 5200Mhz and test game , just to test if issue get solved !
Could ya check youre temps when game is running with HWINFO64 , enable sensors only.
Keep an eye at the Mhz and TEMPS, youre cpu is running at and update us please !
Ps ya also could undervolt youre cpu, will also keep temps low !
Cheers
If ya got issues with temps for cpu, ya could use a BAUER CONTACT PLATER for Lga1700 socket.
Check internet for this contact plate, i use it to and did get +/- 8a10 celcius lower temps at cpu cores !!!!!!!!!
@DMGG1994 No pagefile issues, if ya check his dxdiag ya see whats in use , and whats left over !
@Rokebo73 I'm not saying it has a PageFile problem (file error or something), I'm just saying that Windows thinks its physical Ram is not big enough and it needs to manually increase the paging memory (pagefile) to 10 GB, then the game should stop auto-closing. I had the same problem with Battlefield V when I only had 16 GB of ram and typing in the pagefile size manually solved my problem. Just because a game physically only uses, say, 13gb of ram out of 16 at the moment doesn't mean the system thinks that's enough. If Windows sees a threat that the whole computer might "freeze" when there is a high probability that the RAM reaches 95% or 100% usage for a while, Windows automatically closes the most demanding application, which in this case is BF2042.
If he overclocked the ram via the XMP profile (manufacturer's factory) then there is no risk of it being overclocked, lowering the frequency of the ram will only make the computer less efficient and the problem will still remain. Have him set the pagefile to 10 GB and see if it helped, it helped me with Battlefield V.
Let him see if a larger pagefile size helps him, if it doesn't then we'll keep thinking, it can't hurt to try. Just as a location don't choose an SSD as that could end badly xd
If you are worried that some of his components have too high clocks, then have him do a stress test of the computer, if the stress test passes, then he is ok with the clocks.
For your peace of mind, do what @Rokebo73 wrote, which is to check the temperatures while gaming. The best thing to do is to run HWINFO as described by Robeko and save the results to a file, then in case something happens, you will have everything saved in the file.
I use GenericLogViewer_v6.4 to open HWINFO files.
@Rokebo73 regarding your way to lower the temperature of the CPU, wasn't it better to just buy some serious external cooling ? I'm using Silentium PC Fortis 5 and my CPU doesn't exceed 65 degrees, I've also mounted high speed Arctic fans in the case to keep the GPU cooler.
But as I wrote, first try setting the Pagefile to 10 GB, then to 20 GB, if that doesn't help, it'll keep thinking. A large Pagefile size won't slow down your computer, because PageFile is only used if there isn't enough physical Ram memory.
@eggeggsir Once you see that a pagefile with a size of 10 GB (10240 MB) has solved the problem, you can successively reduce it until the game automatically closes to the desktop again. Later you can buy more Ram and the Pagefile will be redundant, but first see if this helps you.
@Rokebo73 ok ,I always prefer the easiest and safest solutions. You can always set something incorrectly in the BIOS by mistake and then let the service technicians get paid for keeping your computer for a few hours just to find out that the BIOS settings have been restored to factory defaults and not to change anything in it 🙂
If he use stock clocks and the XMP profile, there is a very small probability that the BIOS selects the wrong voltages, etc., so it is better not to touch it. If you set the RAM clocks larger than recommended by the manufacturer, then lowering the RAM clocks will help.
@eggeggsir Let me know if the PageFile method solved your problem with the game crashing to the desktop and if you can use it, because, as I wrote, if you choose the pagefile location as an SSD drive, the storage cells will wear out quickly, which means the drive will need to be replaced quickly. I recommend only setting Pagefile to the HDD.
Regards.

Was this for me as tip/hint ?
No i do not have any temp issues (i had before)
My dxdiag for some system reference added 😉

Sorry for the delayed response. Recently, I tried something different and noticed that when playing games, my CPU reaches 100%, resulting in DirectX errors. I suspect that it's a conflict between the CPU and DirectX. Whenever the CPU hits 100%, the game will pop up with an error message. Can you please suggest any possible solutions? My system specifications are as follows: i7-13700K CPU, 4080 graphics card, 32GB RAM, and Windows 11.
Hmmm weird 100% cpu at 13700k cpu with 32gb ram and a 4080 card.
It is just 1 core that runs at 100%?
Check if there is an directx update / repair solution https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35
in what slots did ya installed memory ?
I do see with the utilty i did send ya and the results ya posted, memory is installed at A1 and B1 (2x 16gb)
Ya need to install memory at A2 and B2
Update us please !
As checked, the memory was installed as the attached. I' am not sure is it A2 & B2. Due to the computer being installed by the store.
I'm not quite clear on how to obtain data regarding the CPU. I just open the task manager and see it at 100%, then it pops out. Is there any tool that can give you reliable experimental results?
@eggeggsirCould ya make a phote from the memory thats installed at youre pc and post it here please !
Yes memory is at A2 and B2.
But i cant realy see whats going on, cause photo is a bit tricky , hahaha
It does "look a like" clips arent clipped all in <-- can be tricked cause the photo is a bit in an angel.
But if it is not clipped all in, its possible memory isnt all in seated , but again , could be tricked by photo !!!
Bit it will not harm to check if all meory is fully seated in at memory banks <-- i do not say it is the problem of the error !!
