I was using Origin as my launcher.
I repaired in Origin. The game broke and wouldnt launch after that.
Above you will see all the different things I have tried.
I did completely uninstall origin, and installed EA. Same issue.
So I have completely uninstalled EA and went back to Origin. Same issue.
I have the feeling that there are still some leftover files of Origin on your PC, that is now particularly causing these issues.
- 3 years ago@EA_Leeuw Using the windows app uninstaller. What would you suggest?
Are you thinking that Origin is breaking the game?
- What files does it download when repairing vs the files it downloads while repairing in EA? Are they different sources? Because I experienced the same issue using both launchers, and the first time was a new install of Origin .
I appreciate you taking the time to respond.
I love BF2042. Im new to the community. The game doesnt get the respect it deserves, and I want to help change that but not being able to launch leaves me dead in the water. - 3 years ago
@EA_Leeuw If it was indeed the Origin leftover files causing the issue, where would those files be located and be removed? I also have not played the game since Dec 31, 2022, ever since the EA App launched its updates on that day. I was still using Origin before that date and the game was working fine.
I have also tried all of the things from people that have experienced the same issue as me (game not launching) and nothing has worked.

@ELxSIGINT @ZAYZ007, alright, I am going to try to write a step-by-step guide of troubleshooting steps that hopefully solve the issue.
First, we have to make sure that neither Origin nor the EA app is still installed on your PC.
- If the BF2042 is still installed on your system, leave it installed for the moment.
- If Origin is still installed on your system, please see if you can completely uninstall it manually by following these steps: https://help.ea.com/en/help/origin/origin/manually-uninstalling-origin/#hard-way.
- Personal recommendation - Alternatively, you can use a program like Revo Uninstaller (free version, and use the program at your own risk) to uninstall Origin and delete potential leftover files.
- If you have Origin uninstalled from your system after you have performed the above-mentioned steps, please reboot your PC before continuing with the troubleshooting steps.
- If you uninstalled Origin from your system already via the default Windows apps & Features screen/Programs and Features screen, please re-download and install Origin via this link and follow the above-mentioned uninstall process again.
- If the EA app is still installed on your system, please see if you can completely uninstall it manually by following these steps: https://help.ea.com/en/help/ea/ea-app/uninstall-ea-app/.
- Personal recommendation - Alternatively, you can use a program like Revo Uninstaller (free version, and use the program at your own risk) to uninstall the EA app and delete potential leftover files.
- If you have the EA app uninstalled from your system after you have performed the above-mentioned steps, please reboot your PC before continuing with the troubleshooting steps.
Make sure that both Origin and the EA app are no longer installed on your system.
- If you're sure that Origin and/or the EA app are no longer installed on your system, please download and install the EA app again via this link.
- To make sure that the installation of the EA app goes as smoothly as possible, please run the EAappInstaller as Administrator/with Admin rights.
- Once the EA app has been installed and you're logged into the EA app, please change the default install directory of games to the directory where you also installed BF2042 previously.
- In this example, the default install directory of the game is the D:\Games\EA folder.
- The EA app should detect that BF2042 has been installed onto the PC.
- If the EA app has detected BF2042 and you can see it as installed in your My Collection screen, please click on Repair to make sure everything is checked.
- Finally, try to launch the game by clicking on the Play button (of the Play arrow).
- In this example, the default install directory of the game is the D:\Games\EA folder.
- 3 years ago@EA_Leeuw Ok,
1. I ran Revo and uninstalled Origin
2. EA was no longer installed nor visible with Revo so I skipped that step
3. Downloaded EA from your link
4. It automatically recognized BF even though its in a diff directory.
5. I changed default directory to where BF was.
6. I ran a repair in EA.
7. I launched and same behavior, EAC pops up, then the BF window, stays black then closes and goes back to EA app - 3 years ago
Just popping in to say I am having the exact same issue and have tried all the same steps. Just fresh installed on steam for the first time in a long time. Game doesn't launch.
I'm kind of in the "give me money back" stage since I literally can't play your game anymore.
UPDATE: It's Webroot anti virus. Paused it temporarily on launch, game started immediately.

Glad you got it to work. I dont use Webroot unfortunately

I'm having the same issue right now. Last time i ran into this it was Easyanticheat & some weird conflict with Easyanticheat_EOS due to the Darktide release. I thought i fixed it by just reinstalling easyanticheat. This time i'm having no luck. I was playing 2 days ago just fine.
- Chalupagobbler3 years agoNew Traveler
I got mine to work. EasyAnti-Start was the culprit again.
Fix 2: Now go and clear your AppData\Roaming\EasyAntiCheat
I just deleted that folder, AppData\Roaming\EasyAntiCheat , and then re-ran the easyanticheat uninstall/install in the BF2042 game folder.
Everything back to normal.
Now can EasyAntiCheat actually ban the cheaters?
wow you are lucky my friend.
I tried that before and it didnt work.
Just tried it again and no dice. Same behaviour.

Hi all,
If you're still unable to launch your game, even after following all the detailed steps that were mentioned earlier, it is very well possible that there's something installed on your PC that is causing issues with the game.
If you're experiencing issues with Easy Anti Cheat, I would recommend reaching out to their support via https://www.easy.ac/contact/.

I will tell you now, none of the above is a fix for me.
I have tried all this. I will even go one further and have you try and explain it to me.
I built a completely new computer system for my wife. It actually is as capable as mine to run anything out there. Tell me, that when I tried to play BF2042 on her system, I get the same problems. I can't play it after 8 hrs!
EA's help amd contact solutions or no help to me! I've even reached out thru the "bug" forums. Nobody will respond!
I news more help than all the above "solutions "!
