Crashing to Desktop - DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG
On a new PC with the following... {CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9900X, GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4080 SUPER, RAM: 32GB DDR5, MB: PRIME B650M-A AX6 II}. I am not doing any overclocking or overrides on what are otherwise default values. When the game is not crashing, I get 180+ FPS on maxed out settings running 1440p with DLSS on "QUALITY". This PC has been thoroughly tested, both by myself and the manufacturer that built the PC, and there are no crashes on other games.
I am experiencing crashes straight to desktop in all types of different maps and scenarios while in-game on BF2042. About every four crashes, the following dialogue appears:
DirectX function "GetDeviceRemovedReason" failed with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG ("The GPU will not respond to more commands"). GPU: "NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER", Driver: 57216. This error is usually caused by the graphics driver cashing; try installing the latest drivers.
Things I have tried (some of which seem completely obsolete) based on similar, if not identical threads which date back to 2021:
- Setting terrain quality to below ultra
- Turning off ray traced ambient occlusion
- Disabled future frame rendering
- Setting DirectX 12 rendering option in PROFSAVE_profile from 0 to 1
- Rolling back driver to previous version (via DDU)
- Reinstalling drivers (via DDU)
- Removing all services and installations associated with Armoury Crate
- Reinstalling BF2042
- Repairing BF2042
- Monitoring temperatures, which are normal
- Disabling all in-game overlays (Discord, GeForce experience, etc.)
Here are suggestions I've seen on other threads which I will not attempt. I am not fiddling with the stability of my system and how it runs all other games merely because of one flawed game.
- Disabling XMP, underclocking, overclocking, etc., or otherwise changing any BIOS values (as mentioned, I have not messed with any of this and they are all at default values)
- Changing registry keys
