Before the update there were certain maps like "SPEARHEAD" where you would play on Russian team on solo/co-op mode (Conquest but may have been same on other game modes). Now it seems like for every map you always start as US can this be reverted as it lets people play different vehicles since both teams do have some unique vehicles?
Also my username seems to have been auto picked is there a way to edit it?
I wouldn't mind for Conquest Solo/Co-op if it was a 50/50 chance to be on either team regardless of map, so you are able to get upgrades for Russian vehicles.
As for Breakthrough I do remember that you were assigned as Russians for some maps (iirc Kaleidoscope, Spearhead, Orbital and a couple of others I think), although after the new update you now play as US regardless of what the map is.
