Alright so I found something that stabilizes the game enough for it to be playable, reliably so it seems. Been playing the game for a week now (almost), and I get 1-2 crashes a day, meaning in a gaming session of anything from 2-6 hours, depending on my free time. I can't say for sure whether the RAM really did anything, but I think probably not.

After I installed the ram, I continued to google options for fixing it. Led me to the suggestion that I should set an FPS limit on the game though the nvidia control panel. I don't remember if I have tried this before, because I've tried so many things over the many months. Regardless, limiting the game to 40 fps has a dramatic effect. Like mentioned before, the game now crashes after hours, not minutes. Before, I was lucky if I made it into a round and got to shoot a bullet or two. Now, it might crash after 3-4 games, and then not again that day.

tldr: set frame rate limit to the game at 40-50, doesnt fix it, but stabilizes the game.
