Game won't launch, bf exe stays in background after EAC disappears

Hi!

After launching the game, the EAC window shows up, then after a while disappears but the game won't start. I've checked in task manager and I can see the bf2042.exe running and using a few % of cpu, but even after a 20 minute wait nothing happens. I'm trying to launch it directly from the ea app, using EA play through gamepass for pc. (I originally had it on Epic, but got tired of the wonky store integration, so I unlinked my accounts. The problem existed even before the unlinking.)

Strange thing is, I'm using the same PC my gf does, and she can launch the game without trouble. We have separate windows, gamepass, and ea accounts. I boot the pc, log into my acc, try starting the game, it fails. Log out, log into hers, and it starts without trouble. Both of our windows accounts are administrators.

I've tried deleting the BF folder in Documents, tried deleting the EA app cache, tried starting it after windows clean boot, tried repairing EAC, tried setting bf2042.exe to launch as admin, the same thing happens every time. I've noticed that the EAC window stays on longer for me than for her. I'm only using the default Windows Security as AV. Found a thread with a similar problem, where a third-party AV was causing trouble, but since I'm using the same AV as my gf, I haven't tried anything with exclusions yet.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

  • I had the same problem for 3 weeks after various updates (NVIDIA drivers / windows update / BF2042) at the same time, a solution which worked for me (PC / windows 10 / EA desktop) in the compatibility options of BF2042.exe (right click / properties / compatibility), I checked the deactivation of full screen optimization... and it's back to normal.

  • After ten's of different solutions this stupid solution of disable fullscreen optimization actually worked! Thank you.

  • I just wanted to say, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I've been having the issue described in the title not just with BF2042, but with literally every EA title that uses the new EA anticheat software. Was convinced the software itself was the problem, and so was EA support when I tried (unsuccessfully) to get their help fixing it.

No other solution I found online worked. Literally, I tried everything that comes up if you google for how to fix this. But your solution did - I haven't been able to play for months, and now I can. I haven't tried it on my other games yet, but I figure if it's working for one it'll work for all.
