Game won't start, "Well, that didn't go as planned"

Hey ,

I seem to be having the same issue as many here. I start the game, either through steam or Origin and it doesn't work.

Through steam it opens Origin for like 2 seconds than nothing. Through Origin, it just has a page saying "Well that didn't go as planned".

I have done everything EA has mentioned in other posts, I have been at this for two days and am at the end of my rope.

I have cleared the three caches countless times. Easy uninstalled Origin, Done it the hard way too more than once. I have cleared the registry of all instances of Origin. Using Cleaner and REVO to help me along the way. Clean boots Safe boots, all the boots.

I just would like this fixed. I have a nice PC and was enjoying the game, now two day of trolling these forums and others to try everything and anything, and nothing still that stupid message of "Well that didn't go as planned".

Is there any help out there?

HOW TO UNINSTALL THE ORIGIN CLIENT THE HARD WAY

Sometimes with technical issues that require extra troubleshooting, you’ll need to make sure you fully remove all parts of the Origin client from your computer.

These steps, especially for PC, can harm your computer if not done the right way. If you’re not 100% comfortable doing them on your own, we recommend having a computer professional help you.

    PC

In some extreme cases, you may need to edit your system registry and remove the folders in a two-part process. This will remove all traces of Origin from your system for a completely blank slate.

Just a reminder: these steps are more advanced than the Control Panel uninstall. Editing your computer's registry or files incorrectly can severely damage your operating system. If you are confident that you can edit your registry successfully, then follow the instructions below.

Important! You need to fully close Origin before you uninstall it.

    1. Quit out of the Origin client.
    2. Open up Task Manager on your computer. To do that, press your CTRL + ALT + Delete buttons all at the same time, then click Task Manager.
    3. In the Processes tab, check to see if there are any Origin processes still running. They would be called OriginWebHelperService or OriginClientService.
    4. End any of the still-running Origin processes you see. This will make sure Origin is fully closed.

Now you can follow these steps to uninstall Origin:

First, remove the Origin client files:

    1. Select Computer from the Start menu.
    2. Select the C: drive.
    3. Select the Program Files folder. On 64-bit systems it’s called Program Files (x86).
    4. Right-click the Origin folder and select Delete.

Next, back up your Windows registry:

    1. Hold down the Windows key and press R.
    2. Type regedit at the Run command and select OK.
    3. Select File.
    4. Select Export.
    5. Under Export Range, select All.
    6. Choose a location and name for the backup file, then select Save.

Third, remove your Origin registry keys:

    1. From regedit, expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder.
    2. Expand the SOFTWARE folder.
    3. Expand the Wow6432node folder.
      • You might see multiple Wow6432node folders; find the one with an Origin folder in it.
    4. Right-click the Origin folder and select Delete.
    5. Expand the Microsoft folder.
    6. Expand the Windows folder.
    7. Expand the CurrentVersion folder.
    8. Expand the Uninstall folder.
    9. Right-click the Origin folder and select Delete.

Last, remove your Origin program cache:

    1. Select Computer from the Start menu.
    2. Select the C: drive.
    3. Select the ProgramData folder.
    4. If this folder doesn’t appear, press Alt, select Tools > Folder Options > View, then check Show hidden files, folders, and drives.
    5. Right-click the Origin folder and select Delete.

Completing these steps should completely remove the Origin client from your system.

Reboot and reinstall Origin AS ADMIN , start Origin AS ADMIN

  • @MadfistsTry This: In Task Manager make sure Origin Client Service and Origin Web Helper Service were disabled

first "view hidden files and folders" Show hidden files -> https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hidden-files-0320fe58-0117-fd59-6851-9b7f9840fdb2
Delete Origin folder in C:\ProgramData\ (Do not delete the LOCAL CONTENT folder in this origin folder)
    Delete Origin folder in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\
    Delete Origin folder in C:\Users\ <username> \AppData\Roaming\
[Admin. addition] - If these steps do not help then try the following, posted below by EA_Nils: http://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Well-that-didn-t-go-as-planned/m-p/5543899#M217029

Reboot and reinstall Origin AS ADMIN , start Origin AS ADMIN

  • Well what do you know, after so many times repeating it, it worked!

I think I found where I wasn't getting it right. When you say install origin as ADMIN, it installs and opens it, but it's not opened as ADMIN, so it didn't work, but when i closed it down and reopened it as ADMIN it did work!

So yes I have tried a game and it worked, lets hope it continues to.

Thank you for the very quick replies and patient with this older than norm gamer.
