I have the same error. The game was working fine until the last week. I have Win 11 with Windows Defender (no 3rd party AV) with all updates.
I tied everything that I could find:
- Running BF2042 repair in Origin
- Clean boot
- Disable UAC
- EAC Service repair utility (EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe)
- EAC Game Errors Solution Guide
- EAC Service update - EAC have v5.0 there and BF2042 includes v4.0
- Windows System File Checker / Deployment Image Servicing
- Running Origin, EAC, and BF2042 as Administrator
- Uninstalling and installing back the latest Nvidia drivers and Nvidia Experience
- Uninstalling and installing back Origin
- Uninstalling and installing back BF2042
- Disabling Real-time and Tampering protection in Windows Defender
- Other fixes
Nothing helped.
This is a complete joke. Web root is a major selling AV. How could the game work this entire time and now all the sudden I can't play until next year? No wonder so many people are asking for their money back.
been wondering the same thing. tried getting a refund a bunch of times but to no avail
at least webroot provided us a fix.... F' EA
I stopped playing battlefield because of their decline in quality. I though 2042 might be my chance at coming back. I was wrong. I uninstalled Webroot just to see how the game was doing. It just feels clunky. This will likely be the last battlefield I play.
Thanks EA
I solved the problem with BF/EAC not starting differently from Accepted Solution for this thread.
Sharing just in case it may help somebody else.
In DxDiag, I noticed that the app at fault is nvcontainer.exe.
It turned out to be NVidia Container from NVidia Control Panel.
When I tried to open it, it was not responding, so I uninstalled it and re-installed it from Microsoft App Store.
And... it fixed the problem, and I can play BF2042!
@Danno_USMC Maybe I missed it. what was the fix provided by Webroot?
- @DeathSquared1 ok folks here is your fix. they are patching it after the holidays, no new patches until then per Webroot. i am a partner with them in business so they have verified this with me.
consumer 1st. download and extract this :

reboot to safe mode with networking.
run this as ADMIN
if no failures, restart as it says. if it cant stop the WRSVS service you need to manually shut it down.
game away
Business side. make sure your webroot can be shut down manually via policy. if you can, the same shall apply as above. if not, change policy in cloud so you can shut down webroot
because the WRSVC cant be stopped in services
game away Uninstalled SecureAnywhere, it ran fine
Informed WebRoot.
