Low FPS/Stuttering Since Last Patch

I've been experiencing an issue where after about 2-3 minutes of play my FPS drops significantly and the game stutters and becomes totally unplayable. I've tried the following solutions:

- Clearing the cache

- Using 'borderless' instead of 'fullscreen' in view options

- Checking my RAM for errors (none were found)

- Rolling back GPU drivers to the last ones and the ones before those

Is this something that a lot of people are experiencing since the most recent mid-January (2023) patch? I've tried a few Google searches and have found posts from around the game's launch that complain about this kind of problem, but none from recently. I'm not having this problem with any other game I currently have installed, so I'm guessing it's specifically to do with BF2042. I've attached my Dxdiag for reference

@Lonehelljump3rOk I fixed it myself. After trying all the internet fixes (clearing cache, user.cfg file, process lasso, ect), updating bios, trying different gpus and ram kits. The fix is to reinstall a clean windows. Now I'm back at 4k ultra at around 140+ fps with zero stuttering.

  • I've tried 2 sets of ram. 32 gb 3866 and 64 gb 3733. Also 2 video cards rtx 4090 and 3090. I've replaced the psu from a 1000 watt gold to 1300 platinum. Ddu driver, disabled cores, turned my overclock down and up. I'm lost.
  • Had been playing Battlefield 2042 for a year without issues until this, but luckily I was able to solve the issue for my part.

    What I did:
    1. Deleted the Battlefield 2042 cache (...\Documents\Battlefield 2042\cache)

    2. Installed the latest NVidia driver 528.24 selecting clean install.

    3. Rebooted my computer.
    4. Opened Device Manager and uninstalled my NVidia GTX 1080 Ti Display adapter, ticking the "Delete the driver software for this device" box.
    5. Immediately after uninstalling I shut down my computer, before Device Manager could auto-install the adapter again.

    6. Turned on my computer and let Windows autodetect and re-install the display adapter.

    7. Rebooted my computer again.

After this, Battlefield behaved normally again. I recon the latest Windows 10 update does not play well with the NVidia drivers, so having Windows re-detect the display adapter resolves it.

The problem seems to have gone away since the latest patch and since updating to the latest Nvidia drivers; I also run the game in 'borderless' mode. I'd also deleted the cache and attempted a clean boot, neither of which helped by themselves.

Out of interest, are any of you finding that it's worse on some maps than others? It wasn't as common on the Portal maps as it was on the 2042 ones.

  • @CableTongue I get it in all maps but I haven't tried portal ones yet. Something I have noticed is my cpu usage drops to like 20% when it happens. I'm running windows 11 idk if that changes anything.
