[PC][Steam][8.7.0] PvE Dead Space Event Empties Laptop Battery in an instant !!

Hello over there,

since todays BF2042 Update v8.7.0, by the PvE Dead Space Event BF2042 has emptied my high-end laptop's battery charge even while being plugged in to a power source within minutes . . .  !!

After 20 minutes of being inside the PvE DS event with other players, BF2042 ate up 55% of Battery. From healthy 75% down to 20%, while even being plugged in as mentioned.

Of course I had not noticed the emptying battery charge until my laptop gone below 25%, caused power savings method and 20 fps in-game. My Battery has gone hot, and still is during charging up again.

This is a very unusual behaviour, something broke BF2042 in this case to use this heavy amount of energy!!

CPU and GPU Temperatures are still nominal.

  • After validation of Steam's BF2042 files by receiving a ~35 MB patch, BF2042 runs "stable" again. CQC, C64 and especially PvE Outbreak. however, if being on Outbreak the UI lag for example by expanding player's ID Cards, and gameplay feels somewhat gluey while still having about 150 fps . . .

It appears the laptop has multiple battery charging levels. Normal, Rapid Charge, Conservation, and Overnight.

Setting the laptop to Rapid Charge will probably keep the battery fully charged while playing Battlefield, but will also wear out the battery's life the fastest.

Three things to keep in mind about lithium ion batteries.

    1. Keeping a lithium ion battery at 100% charge shortens it's life. To maximize battery life never charge above 80%. For maximum battery life try to keep the battery around 50% charge.
    2. The faster a battery is charged the shorter it's life will be. To maximize a battery's life, charge it as slow as possible.
    3. Hot and cold temperatures shorten a battery's life. If a battery feels hot while charging that shortens it's life. If you leave a battery out in the sun and it gets hot that shortens it's life also. Cold temperatures also shorten a battery's life, especially when recharging, but not as much as hot temperatures. Batteries have the longest life at room temperatures that humans find comfortable.

If you want to maximize the life of the laptop battery I would play Battlefield with the laptop battery unplugged when possible.

i have tried, at my location the match maker cannot find a Conquest or Breakthrough session to this time anymore, especially Conquest 128 and even with crossplay enabled. There are maps players like me highly dislike as Stadium and cancel it, that is why that map is in queue on CQC and C64 for many minutes as usually .. I will try again later . . .

    EDIT_001:

i have just verified gamefiles of BF2042 on Steam. it downloaded and applied a 35 MB patch .. maybe this will help. Lets see later again.

i am pretty aware of this all

additionally i wont unplug the battery as i am constantly mobile. to open the laptops case is not that easy and fast on that model.

modern laptops and notebooks have options implemented to set AC/DC-preferred, to save up battery life even more.

it is not my laptops fault, as mentioned up a current BF2042 update/change (v8.7.0) has caused this, so i wait for an official developer or moderator response as well as for a potential announcement and/or "hotfix" about this heavy energy consumption issue (on PvE Dead Space) ... as mentioned i gonna try regular gameplay at a later time again and then to compare it towards PvE DS and power consumption

i let you know as i had a 6 hour session yesterday without any issues, pre-8.7.0 patch
