It is not possible to exclude BF2042 folder from onedrive.
The folder still stays on the onedrive server.
If i disable onedrive my photo's from my phone dont store to onedrive anymore.
This is MS doing it all wrong, when i want a folder to exclude from onedrive it has to delete the folder from onedrive not stay on it.

@BetaFieldPlayerTechnically speaking, it's DICE that is doing this all wrong. They shouldn't be storing cache data in the "My Documents" folder. "My Documents" folder is for user-created data. Application cache data should be stored "ProgramData" or "Appdata" depending on whether or not it's user profile specific.
These are basic principles from Microsoft applicaiton developer guidelines. DICE has done this properly in past titles. More evidence of massive talent loss at DICE with the development of BF2042.

DigitalHype is correct, EA/DICE used the wrong folder to store the cache folder which gets synched by OneDrive. I have OneDrive uninstalled but that's not a good solution for all players,
DICE really needs to fix this.

@DigitalHypeI know that Dice is doing this all wrong, thats why i sayed hope they fix it. Onedrive more then half full because of 1 cache folder, this makes Onedriver unusable.

Hey all,
Thank you for this feedback.
We have made the teams aware of this. - Rokebo733 years agoSeasoned Ace
You could also say users from one drive did it wrong.
They should config there onedrive / folders to be backup!
More important , read the manual how to exclude folders from one drive, google for it !
Cheers - BetaFieldPlayer3 years agoNew Vanguard
@Rokebo73When i exclude a folder from onedrive, the folder still stays on onedrive and the folder on my pc will be deleted, when i then start the game a new cache folder is made, and onedrive tells me that there are now 2 folders with the same name.
Onedrive should delete the folder from onedriver when i exclude a folder, this would make more sence but the reverse is the case.
So users did it not wrong, but Dice did and Microsoft.
I wish they put the game folders not in the documents folder but in their own game folder that is not connected to onedrive.

@Rokebo73This does not work, when i exclude the cache folder from onedrive and then go to the online version of onedrive and then delete the cache folder, when i then start up BF2042 a new cache folder will show up in onedrive.
- Kirkules33 years agoNew Novice
@Rokebo73 Respectfully, you're incorrect. OneDrive hides the folder from the Operating System if you exclude it from the backup. I tested this last night. I can choose to "show hidden files" and the game still cannot see the folder. Therefore, all of my saved settings get wiped every time I launch the game.
I appreciate that the support team is reviewing this request. There are countless other folders that are better suited for these files.

With the latest patch, the cache folder is still in my Documents, onedrive.
Also have this issue. OneDrive got filled up with a 1GB+ BF2042 folder and stopped me receiving emails.
Unselecting the folder as per advice in post #10 doesn't work as this removes the folder from the PC but not OneDrive.
EA just HAS to move this folder out of My Docs. This is a standard area for users personal files and makes total sense for OneDrive to backup... not the place for a cache folder.
The normal place for these sorts of folders is C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\BF2042\Cache
Surely it's not that hard to change this EA... For now I just have to remember to delete the folder after every play session

There is a "workaround" for this issue, but ya need to do some changes in "policy" settings.
This requires some time and skills to change it.All the info here:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/use-group-policy
Change deafault onedrive location here:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/use-group-policy#set-the-default-location-for-the-onedrive-folderExclude certain file types from synch here:
Block file downloads when users are low on disk space
And a lot more to change by "Policies"
It will take some time, always make a backup from files so you dont loose them !!!!
Cheers people !ps ya need to run gpedit.msc as admin
Or make a 2nd windows account at youre system , only for gaming , no one-drive and other unneeded/unwanted software active !!!
Sorry but the advice above either shouldn't be needed (moving OneDrive away from My Docs, which OneDrive SHOULD be syncing to the cloud) or plain wrong (Blocking file downloads only works the OTHER way, so if you are low on disk space it won't download from OneDrive. This issue is the opposite where we are running out of space in OneDrive and this setting won't stop this.
The one good piece of advice is to block certain file types from being uploading/Synced. It seems that the main bulk of the files are .PcDx12 files, blocking this from uploading might be a workaround.
Just to say though, Group Policy editor is only available in Windows Pro and not Windows Home (AFAIK) so if you don't have Pro you will need to use a 3rd party tool or edit the registry direct. Also if you do have Pro you need to copy the .ADMX and .ADML files from the OneDrive install location to C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions before the settings above are ACTUALLY available.
These are NOT settings for the faint hearted and a general user shouldn't be playing with them NOR SHOULD THEY NEED TO as EA should be saving these cache files in %localappdata%
- Rokebo733 years agoSeasoned Ace@Dougiebabe Or ya could use a 3rd party tool , look a like onedrive.
, only with more control about folders/files and clouds to synch !!
onedrive is much complain about (at all kinds of websites) about this issue , documents folder and not able to exclude stuff from inside onedrive @EA_LeeuwIs this something that we can see fixed in 5.0?
It's a nightmare that this is eating up space on the precious system disk, when the game is installed on a dedicated harddrive for games.
Would be better if this can be customized or is located closer to the game. Or as others mentioned, in the appropate directory.
User directory is defiently the wrong place.
- Rokebo733 years agoSeasoned Ace@Dougiebabe ya could use group policies in any windows 10/11 version.
There are tools/instructions to enable/activaye gpedit.msc !! (winaero twaeker i believe is one of them)

Hey @Herdosratos,
Battlefield 2042 is designed to use the Documents folder for its settings etc. It's not something that can be 'fixed', because it is not something that is broken. Battlefield 2042 is also not the only game that uses the Documents folder for things like these.
However, the feedback has been passed on to the teams. I agree that settings etc belong there.
But compiled shaders taking 2 GB space is too much.
Thanks for passing it on.
- Rokebo733 years agoSeasoned Ace@Herdosratos just PAUSE the onedrive !
- BetaFieldPlayer3 years agoNew Vanguard
If other games also use the document folder then onedrive is unussable. so please remove this cache folder.
- Rokebo732 years agoSeasoned Ace
@BetaFieldPlayer better cfg settings from onedrive, Make sure onedrive is not running before booting BF2042.
with this app ya can disable onedrive and many more !
WinaeroTweaker Can't believe 2 years later EA troglodytes still haven't figured this * out
Saving chache file in Documents doesn' t make sense.
I tried that several times but it always syncs the cache folder again ☹️
how can something so simple not be fixed for such a long time by a company this big !?!?
