Re: BF2042 Wrong GPU picked in dual GPU rig

Product: Battlefield 2042
Platform:PC
Please specify your platform model. PC
AMD or Nvidia Model Number Rx 6600 Xt
Enter RAM memory size in GB 32
Are you using any software with an overlay? Yes
If yes, can you list them here? AMD Radeon
If you disable this software, does that have any effect? No
Which part of the game is the issue happening in? Game Menu
In which game menu were you when the bug occurred? Not the point
Please select your region Other
On which server did this happen?
When did this happen? (dd.mm.yy hh:mm)
Summarize your bug Game launches to wrong gpu(rx580). The monitor isn't even plugged into that gpu. The monitor is plugged into my rx 6600 xt. The only way for me to work around it is to disable the rx 580 in device manager.
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? No clue. Might have to do with my pcie address on the gpu maybe. I don't know about that kinda stuff.
What happens when the bug occurs? the game begins to run off my rx 580 which creates a very laggy experiece obviously since it has to send the stuff to my 6600 xt to get to my monitor.
What should be happening instead? The game should launch off the gpu the monitor is plugged into or at least give an option to change it or something

First of all, why would you even have two different GPUs in your PC?

You should be abel to set the default gpu to run any Program from in the settings of your driver.

Sadly I only know how it works on Nvidia Cards

  • There are productivity tasks which benefit from multiple GPUs. There is a Windows setting, but the game ignores it and starts on the wrong one anyway. There's no setting in the Nvidia driver unless it's a laptop or OpenGL application, but other games depend on what the monitor is plugged in to, the Windows setting or have an option in their own settings.

Right now, the only way to get around this seems to be to go into device manager and disable the other GPU (which is far from ideal - it's inconvenient and disables connected monitors).

  • Having the Same issues as well with the same work around.

    Main GPU - 2080ti

Additional GPU 2x1080tis - Both do not have a monitor plugged into it

disabling both 1080tis will have Battlefield 2042 launch using the 2080ti

Battlefield 2042 is the only game or application that does this. BF5,BF1,BF4, and BF3 do not have this issue

  • Confirmed around the office that this a problem

We have 12 workstations with various combinations of GPUs (Most 2080tis or 2080 supers with 1080tis or 1080s). Happens on all of them. It seems BF2042 is set to prefer the slowest/oldest GPU in the system.  It used a GTX970 over a 2080 Super.

    Same here. 2080 Ti + 1080 Ti = it uses 1080 Ti ...

  • @ryannathans Great Question!

this issue still occurs regardless of which slot/position/Bus ID the 2080s have vs the 970s. (results are the same with the 2080ti and 1080ti systems)

@MC_Vanillawhite Interesting, somewhere some code is probably enumerating the GPUs and picking the last one to avoid integrated graphics, making the incorrect assumption that the last GPU is the primary GPU
