Re: Client wont connect to online services on first run

@Canning_sdc i have the same issue

may i ask where you have you game? Steam or direct on Origin ?

I bought it on steam and instead of the thin client i start standard origin before i start BF2042 (but it also happens on the thin client)

but on the first start the game will not connect to the online service

This also happens when I restart my system over the day and start the game again.

    Direct on Origin.

Does every first start not connect to the online service for you?

Is there a way to inform EA of this so that it is sorted?

@EA_AticI know that you have to exclude everything else but the problem here is not the problem of hardware or third-party software beside origin and or BF2042 on my system 😉

but let’s summarize everything on my end:
-my PC is connected with 2.5GB
-my home server is connected with 2,5g (because of the fact that I try to save energy this server only runs when it is needed!)
-my NAS1 is connected with 1GB
-my NAS2 is connected with 1GB (starts only once a week for automated back)
-my PiHole Server (RPI CM4 on a Tofu Board) with 1GB (du to the limitation the raspberry pi the 1GB will not be reached but is not necessary for the purpose of PiHole)
-one D-Link 1GB Switch (DGS 5-Ports Layer2 which is neat because you can power it via USB (4 ports used only for my RPI Projects)
-two Qnap Switches (QSW-1105-5T 5 Ports 2,5GB unmanaged)

-my Router is an AVM Fritz!Box 7590
-My ISP connection is 100Mbit/s down and 40 Mbit/s up

    So now to the connections^^
all my relevant systems have wired connection as follows:
-My Fritz!Box is connected to Qnap Switch 1 (QSW-1105-5T 5 Ports 2,5GB unmanaged)
-Both NAS1 and NAS1 are directly connected to the Fritz!Box
-PiHole is connected to the D-Link 1GB Switch which is connected to the Qnap Switch 1
-Qnap Switch 1 has a connection to Qnap Swicth 2
-my Home Server is connected to Qnap Switch 2 (as well as my RPI VCR and SAT server)

So, this was a little breakdown of my setup, also all connections are CAT 7 which is much more than I need.
The Connection between my PC and my Home Server gives me the max 2,5GB (lets say 99% when you subtract some overhead)

The same with my NAS 1 and NAS 2, If I don’t watch any stream, I can transfer files from or to them with 97%-98% of their capabilities depending of the file size

due to the fact that I’ve got lucky with my ISP so that I am only about 320m away from the next distributor, I get more power than I should get

the last speed test some minutes ago was 113,17Mbps down and 36,45 Mbps up I think this should be more than enough for BF2042 😉 (I tested 3 times with my PC and 3 times with my iPhone which is connected via w-lan both got the same results)

Also there is no software firewall beside the system tools MS is delivering with win11 and I don’t use a VPN (especially not for gaming) and my PC has priority in my Fritz!Box ^^

If you need more details, I can put in in here ^^

Now to the point which is important, this issue has come with 1.0.0 and 1.1.0 ^^
Before that I don’t have any connectivity issues.

Also, this phenomenon only happens on the first start of BF2042 and I start\stop this game 3-5 times a day without rebooting my system. if this would be some hardware issues or an issue with another software this should happen every start of the game.

Also, I need to mention that I start Origin manually it is not in my AutoStart.

    I hope this helps ^^

Sorry for my long post, I know that this is your job to ask this question <3

    [EDIT]

what I did not think about and what I did not track whether it may have led to this problem only by an origin update at the same time.

Also this issues is the same with the thin client when i start the game direct via Steam

Thanks for the very detailed breakdown!

I assume the Pihole is not there to regulates your network in any shape or form? @CountSero,

    @EA_Atic

PiHole is an DNS sinkhole which means this is a local DNS server that collect all DNS request in my network

After collection the request it will compare it with a table for known tracking and advertising domains.

If this ip\domain is on the list it will return the information that this request is non-routable (which blocks the request)

You can also create addition Black & Whitelist for domains, websites and ips you want.

The advantage of this little thing is, blocking such request will speed up the loading times of the most website because of not loading tracker adds or normal adds

This works not only on PC also in Apps on my iPad or iPhone when I’m in my network

If there where something wrong with PiHole, it wouldn’t block it once it would be blocked every time

I use PiHole for over 2 years now and also, I played BF2042 from release till mid of march without this issue

I stopped due to RL things and returned with the start of Season 1, and then this issue where there.

But I will watch it and try some different things and will post an update here.

@EA_Atic still the same, i checked all things on my system for driver update (there where only one for the graphics card)

also tested starting without PiHole (several times with rebooting the system in-between)

checked my system for unneeded services and i also removed other cheat detection like penpusher, unseat etc. and now some games not working anymore ^^

i tried all things that come to my mind^^

but the next two maybe three day I don’t will game much^^

with somewhat between 35-40 degrees Celsius here in EU it is too hot and I don’t want to risk my PC ^^

but this give me some time to use my brain for this problem ^^ (I think I need to check the services which will start with Origin maybe there is one that is not starting the first time)

So thnx for asking and stay hydrated it ^^

Got the same problem, see here https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Connecting-to-online-services-only-works-after-restarting-game/m-p/11563547#M26472

I don't have any special setup (pc -> router -> internet), nor any special software interupting with the network. It's happens always after a full reboot, once i start the game the second time, it works always. Even after standby it's working then. Once you reboot or shutdown your computer, you need to to start the game 2 times.

I suppose it's a problem with the startup timing.

Not working: Go to Steam -> Start Bf2042 (loads and missing connecting to online services), then Alt-F4 the game, start again and it works.

Working: Go to Steam -> Start Origin -> Close Origin -> Start Game -> Loads normally.

    @EA_Atic

I still was on the search which could cause the issue of my problem and it seems that i have found a solution for my problem.

I wanted to test if the SSD I use is maybe defect or causing issues, so i used the nice Steam function to move Installation from one to another SSD\HDD.

So, I moved the game to a standard HDD started it once and saw that this will force a new installation of the Thin Client and EAC.

But playing on HDD is not an option for BF2042 related to loading times but it directly connected to the Online Service. *Which was a succes!*

So, I moved it back to an SSD and the first start it again reinstalled The Thin Client and EAC.

Started the game and got direct connection to the online service again.

To be sure I restarted the PC, Opened the regular Origin client and started the game and still get a direct connection to the online service.

So, it seems that something got mixed up with an update of BF2042, The Thin Client or EAC which a repair couldn’t fix.

So, this is kind of a double win for me because this also brought back my quick loading speed in BF2042 which were also influenced by this problem (so since the last patch)

i hope this Info can help you and thnx for your support 🙂
