Re: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG ("The GPU will not respond to more commands")

Hi @SteveOhhNo

Do you have hardware accelerated GPU scheduling (HAGS) enabled in Windows settings?

You can find this setting located under System > Display > Graphics

    @BattlefieldDICEr

    Yes this is turned on

    variable refresh rate is off

Terain detail to high instead of ultra ( still failures )

FOV set to 80 , now have less failures but not gone ( now fails without an error message )

Before last update/upgrade i didn't have this issue.

    Thank you for the reply!

What do you mean by update/upgrade - is it the GPU driver or game that you refer to here?

    update of the game

    btw variable refresh was ON

turned it off , now i got a Bsod  but 1st game went ok , 2nd game bsod.

    turning it on again.

testing some more , but i think it's coming when i use scope , when changing from normal view to scope it crashtipants.

After 2 days without an error, today it's back, how is it possible? This must be the game , and I read in the Reedit forums that there are users who have solved it by deactivating the XMP profile in bios , can someone confirm it ? Thanks

  • @3sTiGm4t4

did it work before without a problem ?

    have you changed anything ?

if both are no then you can assume it's the game

crippling your system by turning off XMP would be of no use  , might solve the issue for now( depending on the system setup) but it should just work like it did before.

@BattlefieldDICEr ok . i put terrain back to Ultra , FOV = 80 , then to test i only set DLSS from quality to balanced and now done 6 games in a row without crashing.

I had always had the directx error, I got the new computer, I only took advantage of the graphics card (Rtx 2080ti) until I saved up for a better one, but the rest is new, I bought the game in December and from the first day I had the same error Directx . I came across this thread and read it all and thought, I know I don't have an rtx 4080, but uploading the same error, so I'm going to lower the terrain qualities from High to Medium, and it worked for me for 2 days with game sessions. 2-3 hours every day, but yesterday I got the error again. The only thing that changed on my computer was the Nvdia drivers that the new update came out and the ARMORY program asked me for a Graphics Card update, this last one is the one that makes me somewhat suspicious, although I don't know how I can reverse it since I did. makes the ARMORY program from Asus

@BattlefieldDICEr Ok - eveything is back to default , then optimized with Gefore experience , So everything is on ULTRA and FOV is back to default.
Only thing i've changed is DLSS set to Balanced. no more crashes from DXGI.
  • Yeah, I'm getting this error as well. Latest drivers on a 3080, all on ultra, except terrain is on medium. @EA_Atic are you guys ever going to fix this?

@General-CannolliYeah same for me here with my new 4070ti. Literally tried everything. Also reinstalled Windows. Nothing helps to get rid of this.

@Malle355  share youre system specs please !
    Also post a dxdiag!

    Do this also:
    Memory+Motherboard+bios check part specs

Press Windows key + 'R' ,typ CMD
Press and hold down CTRL + SHIFT and press ENTER.
When User Account Control shows up, click Yes.
    Now enter this command:

wmic /output:C:\mb_mem_bios_info.txt memorychip list full&wmic /append:C:\mb_mem_bios_info.txt baseboard get product, Manufacturer&wmic /append:C:\mb_mem_bios_info.txt bios get smbiosbiosversion

At youre C: drive there is now a file called mb_mem_bios_info.txt post this file please !!!
    Thanks.

ps the bolded line is just 1 command, copy and past all !

  • Hey everyone, so I replaced my riser cable (since my GPU is vertically mounted) and it seems to have gone away (except for one specific situation).

But overall great performance now, I even left Battlefield running overnight, maybe 7 or 8 hours, and it was still running in the menu, which would normally crash after 5-15min.

The one time where it still crashed with the same error is when it's booting up and I move the window around to resize it since I play in windowed mode, something about it initializing it and being stretched crashes it I guess.

  • @Rokebo73  First thank you for your help.

    My Setup:

ROG Crosshair VIII Hero (WI-FI) (latest BIOS 4402)

    ROG Strix 4070ti

    Ryzen 9 3900X

    4x GSKILL 8GB 3600Mhz

Overclocking is disabled. Also tried it with disabled XMP.

GPU is pluged in directly to the Mainboard without Adapter for vertical.

    Thanks in advance.

@Malle355   Im checking for youre memory partnumber in qvl , and i could not find the
F4-3600C18-8GTZRX partnumber from the mem you got installed

I don not see it in this list

    Version -
1.18 MB Memory QVL for AMD Ryzen™ 3000 Series Processors_X570-4DIMM

    https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/SocketAM4/ROG_CROSSHAIR-VIII-HERO_WI-FI/Memory_QVL_for_AMD_Ryzen_3000_X570-4DIMM.pdf?model=ROG%20CROSSHAIR%20VIII%20HERO%20(WI-FI)

    Also not in this list:
    Version -
1.18 MB Memory QVL for AMD Ryzen™ 3000 Series Desktop Processors

    https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/SocketAM4/ROG_CROSSHAIR_VIII_DARK_HERO/Memory_QVL_for_AMD_Ryzen_3000_Series_Desktop_Processors.pdf?model=ROG%20CROSSHAIR%20VIII%20HERO%20(WI-FI)

Its possible youre current memory is not supported by youre cpu.
Why ? cause you got some issues with XMP settings, this point out that youre memory could cause some issues.

    Cheers

PS buy other mem. 2x 16gb.
Or manualy set memory settings in bios <-- need time , experise and lot of time to test , test , test ect ect ect ect

  • @Rokebo73 Thanks for your help. I've got also in my Server 2x16GB Corsair Vengance (CMW32GX4M2E3200C16). Will test, if it works. I saw its also not in the list only the CMW32GX4M2C3200C16. The only difference between mine and the compatible one is the C3200 and i've got E3200. I will test it tomorrow and see what happens.

  • @Rokebo73 One question? Why is Battlefield so untable? Played so many Games witthout errors. No problem at all. Switched my RAM now its working for 2 hours. Pretty sure thats it. But why? Every game working so smooth expect BF. Why is that so???

This sucks.  I am getting the same issue, can't play, crashes with the same error message.  I have win 11 and GTX 2080Ti.  I had this issue before and the only way to resolve it was to install older drivers from last fall, 528.02, anything newer and I would get the error.

Unfortunately, now they require the latest drivers, installed and of course, the GPU error is back.

THANKS>Awesome, good job folks requiring the latest drivers!

Setting FOV to 80 and terrain to high didn't work for me, even after rebooting the PC, same issue.  Complete garbage game.

@Malle355 Cause youre cpu and memory communicate/transfer data directly, and the software <-- Bios -> isnt compatible with this hardware.
And of course is BF2042 using cpu very intensive and need youre mem also , 1 + 1 means any error , visible or not , could make weird things happen.

Check other topics from people with the weirdest cpu/gpu issues as example.
I would advise you to buy 2x 16gb , is the best for dual channel (is faster) mode , and make sure its mem in youre QVL for the best compatiblity with cpu, mem , bios (xmp settings/oc).
Buy the fastest (most hz) mem from this QVL and youre good to go !!

After switching memory (new set) do a complete new reinstall of youre windows also, and do a CMOS reset to make sure mem is running without any issues in/with cpu/bios settings !!!

    Cheers

ps new mem iun qvl , cmos reset , load optimized defaults in bios if needed ,reinstall windows !!!

Please explain to me how buying new ram will solve a DXGI error?  I'd really like to know how that connection is made.  For me, the latest Nvidia drivers were at fault and so I downloaded drivers from last fall 528.02 which worked fine, the game would run stable.  I went thru all iterations of Nvidia drivers climbing down there version latter until I found the ones which worked.

Now, however, I cannot run the game because DICE requires the latest drivers, so I installed the latest driver and once again, I cannot play the game, it crashes to desktop with the same error message that the OP started this thread with.  So. I'm back to the same GPU issue, again GPU issue.

While someone may not have 'qualified' components, this error is not triggered by that and people should be careful in throwing money at issues they don't understand.

@skates15any hardware thats not in QVL from the brand/typ motherboard ya use is not tested (yet).
Still it could work flawles , but opposite is also possible !
Hardware not in QVL is NO quarantee that is work 100% ok !
There arent tests of it !

    Do this:?
    Memory+Motherboard+bios check part specs

Press Windows key + 'R' ,typ CMD
Press and hold down CTRL + SHIFT and press ENTER.
When User Account Control shows up, click Yes.

Solved for me running DX12:  Delete your cache files as found in In your documents > Battlefield 2142 folder > Cache.  What I noticed is that the manifest file did not have the same time stamp as the latest PcDx12 files.  The PcDx12 files had a time stamp of 3/2, while the manifest had a time stamp of 2/28.

So, just conjecture, perhaps the manifest file did not get updated and was referring to the PcDx12 files with a time stamp of 2/28, not the latest ones with a time stamp of 3/2 that the game was attempting to use.

I first created a folder in the documents directory and cut/paste all of the files from the Cache folder into it, leaving the Cache folder blank.

Then I ran the game and it runs now, no crashing entire game (fingers crossed for the future).

I checked the Cache folder after exiting the app and all the files, including manifest and Data Base file were recreated all with the same time stamp.  So, I don't think there is a need to save the old files since they are recreated, but you may want to anyway, just in case.

Hope this solves it for you, again I'm running Dx12, 2080Ti with Nvidia 531,18 and no Nvidia profiles or changes to the settings in Nvidia control panel.

@skates15 how did you run Bf2042 in DX11? The Games has no DX11 support. So you run all the time on DX12. What did you enable?
