Re: How do I completely disable controller on PC for BF2042?

@xxxC🤭lBr33zExxx Sorry, but could you provide more detail? By going to "Key Bindings", then "On Foot" tab, down to "Look Right" (cause that's the direction my character is spinning), I select the keybind under the "Controller" column. When selected is says "Press A Button To Bind" or "Hold (Three-line) To Clear", "ESC to Cancel".  Tried holding escape but it just takes me out of that menu.

@SaltineCracka63 sure can. When you get the message where it says "Press A Button To Bind" or "Hold (Three-line) To Clear", "ESC to Cancel", hold down the ESC button for a few seconds and that should clear the bind. The window will close once the bind is removed and you should see your settings.

Buddy is having a very similar issue and can't bind any keys at all. Everything is defaulting to mouse 5.

@L1qq I just double checked but there is no default mouse 5 bind. The only default binds for a mouse are scroll wheel up/down and the standard movement up/down and left/right.
  •  Looking at my buddies PROFSAVE_profile in settings folder it looks like the game thinks he's on Xbox and using a controller. My PROFSAVE_profile looks correct and works fine. I tried uploading my PROFSAVE_profile and having him delete his and use mine but the game is still overriding my profile.

  • Ok. So I fixed my issue.  Apparently there was a right input being picked up from one/both of my joysticks. I disconnected them. Once I disconnected them I launched the game and went back into keybinds. I was able to clear all the controller keybinds, reconnect my joysticks, and launch the game. It seems I couldn't clear the keybinds while the joysticks were connected because it was picking up the right input immediately, preventing me the chance to clear the keybinds.

That's what was happening to me.  My X56 throttle is a bit dodgy (as many of them are) and will occasionally send spurious inputs.  I managed to get lucky and unbind things without having to unplug it, but I'm still getting very occasional bursts where it's "waking up" and throwing me into a menu in-game.  Not too bad, but it's just more incentive to finally replace this throttle with something better.

  • @L1qqSame for me. And it started today after i've been trying to get a PS4 controller to work (unplugged now and reset pc, verify game files and what ever other ... ppl suggested.). Since then i also cannot clear or set mouse keybindings anymore. I'm always getting the "mouse 5" and clear is asking for the three lines button to be pressed. Holding ESC doesn't work for the mouse; it just closes the dialog *instantly*. It does however work for keyboard and controller where it doesn't close the dialog instantly but clears the binding.

Unfortunately, for me holding ESC drops the menu back like it says "Esc to Cancel" it does not clear the bind no matter how many attempts I make. I don't even have a controller so the fact my KB+Mouse settings say "Hold 3 bars to Clear" & also appears to be a widespread problem gives me hope EA will address this issue.

My config is Steam+KB+Mouse (No controller plugged in, No Joysticks plugged in). I cleared the keybindings and restarted to no avail.

  • @LeonUbernidustry turning on your Game Mode option in your Win 10 Game settings. It worked for me and i was able to successfully unbind this nuisance bug.

Start >>> Settings >>> Gaming >>> Game Mode >>> Toggle on switch

After doing the above, simply restart your BF2042 game and voila, you should now be able to unbind the "mouse 5" key by holding down the ESC.

Hope this helps some you guys cause it's worked for me and i didn't have to edit any player profile files.

@Cleveland_SteamR Thank you for suggesting something new to attempt! It didn't work to resolve the issue for me.

    Start >>> Settings >>> Gaming >>> Game Mode >>> Turn on switch (was already on but I toggled it off & restarted {no fix} & toggled it back on & restarted {no fix}

I was having rhe same issue and my fps was taking a hit. I downloaded the new nvidia driver and now I can change my key bindings no problem

  • @Boyler73I just installed the new Nvidia driver, rebooted and tried again. It appears to have resolved my previous key binding issue (mouse 5/ Xbox controller button to clear setting).

Now the Switch Weapon-Gunner key is hard locked to the F key is and I can't change or delete it at all.

I finally got the Mouse 5 button issue today when I tried rebinding the mouse wheel while in-game. I got rid of it was to restore my key bindings to default and rebind everything again.

Definitely recommend taking some screenshot of your binds prior to resetting....lol

I saw another possible posted where they stated "delete the "cache"-folder inside the Documents/Battlefield 2042-folder."

After further investigation/play I found the Transport Driver Map button still does the old "Hold Xbox button to clear" and maps it to mouse 5 automatically. It appears the Nvidia drivers resolved some of the issues for some key controls but the same issue is still present in other controls.

  • @L1qq I had to reinstall the game without my controller installed at first..
PC , Origin account beta and full version control issues.. Joystick installed and it doesn't show up in the game at all.. I unplugged it for now to diagnose a setting problem with conflicting center mouse button commands. Normal mouse buttons left and right button worked fine.
I was playing great until all of the sudden my mouse button was making the wrong weapon selection ,, Button #6 was set wrong.. Edit and it was already taken, Selected to go back to default, cleared it but now I choose the correct assignment and it says are you sure you want to bind the 2 keys already assigned ?? what the hell ? everything was fine.. I opened the Config file in my documents/bf2042/settings/ Prosave_profile edited with notepad+++ and was able to fix 1 button on mouse only but not button #6 and I couldn't find the conflict.. Had to delete/uninstall bf2042 and as soon as I was done downloading it I went into settings and tried the mouse again. It was FIXED and didn't have a conflict anymore. I had to reconfigure all my combat, on foot, flying controls, and it's saved in C:\Users\*YourName*\Documents\Battlefield 2042\settings\PROFSAVE_profil. save this file so you don't have to reconfigure the game so many times. Rank 62 right now and having some fun. The next couple of updates to come should have more joystick and Pad options .. Good luck MK

Battlefield 4 would have key binding issues if you had a controller plugged in.  How could this still be an issue in the newest game.
