Unable to launch BF2042

Hi Kent: I've attached a screenshot of my task manager and which programs I have enabled and disabled. This is with MS programs hidden. I haven't changed anything yet. Thought you might see something. Can't say as this current set-up has caused any issues with other BF games. I did get a fairly large update yesterday. It took several minutes to download. I thought that would fix it. But no such luck. Is there not some type of log available in-game to show the booting process?

Hey @Confuzzo, 

I'm curious if there might actually be an issue with Easy Anti-Cheat that's not allowing the game to launch. Have you tried repairing or reinstalling Easy Anti-Cheat to see if that makes any difference? You can find more info on how to do so over at the Easy Anti-Cheat website.

Hi Kent: I have gone into the game exe. file and made it so I run the game as administrator, and did the same with the anti-cheat exe. When I did that I could see the anti-cheat launch but still the game is no go. Made no difference. But I will uninstall and reinstall the anti-cheat and see what happens.

Hi Kent: Still a no go. I'm pretty sure the anti-cheat is working. What do you think about uninstalling it and starting from scratch. I also did Microsoft Nettech log I was going to send you but the log is like 250mb. I looked through it but I don't know what I'm looking at.

Hi Kent: Here's a link to 35 sec. video on my YT channel of my desktop and what happens when I launch the game. Maybe it will help. Looks like it's doing everything except opening the game. For awhile it was even giving me the black screen before the game.

Two video anomalies though. It, for some reason does not show me clicking the anti-cheat prompt. And the blue screen is not on my screen, only in the recording. Probably has something to do with the game booting up.

Do you know if Easy Anti-Cheat might be installed on a different drive than BF2042? I've seen some cases where this can happen because EAC was installed through a different game beforehand. 

If they are on separate drives, try moving them to make sure they're saved on the same drive and see if that makes a difference. Let me know if that makes any difference for you. Thanks!

Hi Kent: Never mind about all that other stuff. You might find this interesting. So I look and see and I have EasyAntiCheat in the same file as the BF2042 game which is in my D drive. But I also have EayAntiCheat installed in my C drive. So I go to services and see the service running for it are for the C drive EasyAntiCheat exe. So I uninstall the EasyAntiCheat in my C drive. Then I launch the game again and I get this screen. Says the EasyAntiCheat is  not installed. It doesn't see the EAC in the same file as the game is in. I think I'll try to uninstall the EAC in the D drive and then reinstalled it. Or perhaps just reboot my machine and see if that might works. Sometimes that works you know

Hi Kent: I just went through the install log and it clearly shows the EAC being installed in the same drive as the game. However, I likewise found EAC in my C drive, as I mentioned. If I do a repair on EAC what it does is uninstall it and then reinstall in on the C drive without any prompt as to what drive you want to use. So when I launch the game and the EAC prompt comes up it clearly shows it is starting EAC from my D drive. But then the game never launches. But if I uninstall EAC from my C drive and launch the game it comes up with that error message saying that EAC is not installed. So the launch is looking for EAC in the wrong drive, yes?

Maybe a reinstall of the game from scratch is needed and see what happens.

Hey Kent: Here's what I think. I don't think the issue is on my end anymore. Here's why. But follow what I'm saying as it 's going to get a bit intricate. I have 3 drives on my machine, C, D, L. Drive C is a SS 120GB drive that has my operating system on. D drive is a 1 TB drive that has all my other BF games on. And my L drive is my big drive. 3TB so it has room to roam. I completely uninstalled the game. Remember me telling you that there was a file created in my C drive from repairing EAC. I removed that file also. So now my machine is void of any 2042. I redownload the game and specifically install that whole thing this time in my L drive. In that installation was EAC, on my L drive within the BF2042 folder, with the game. I look and sure enough it's also installed a EAC folder on my C drive again. However, it's not the complete file. Has only 2 files (see attached), no folders. One exe. and the other sys. Obviously not the complete file as installed on my L drive with the game. So pay attention. Here's where it gets tricky. When I launch the game the EAC prompt comes up. Click show more details and it clearly shows it starting EAC on the L drive. So you hit the button and it goes about 15-20 sec. then it just goes back to the Origin home page. Says nothing about anything. It's like launching the game never happen. But now check this chit out. If I go into my C drive and remove the 2 files from the EAC folder that was created with the game installation, and I relaunch the game it comes up with an error message saying the EAC is not installed. What do you think of that? .................. Jeopardy music going in the background. Remember your answer must be in the form of a question (-;

What is... actually I'm not sure. 

Would it be possible to try moving BF2042 to your C drive to test and see if that actually makes any difference? I imagine that EAC wouldn't require the game to be installed there, but to be frank I don't know for sure. 

Hey Kent: No can do. Not nearly enough space on C drive. It's only a SS 250GB drive. All my other BF games (I, 3, 4, 5) are on my D drive which I set-up just for gaming. I'm going to uninstall it from L drive and put it back on D drive. Obviously that's not the problem. At least in my example it won't launch because It's trying to start EAC from an incomplete file it's installing on my C drive. So I think there's something in the game coding. When I uninstall the game from my L drive I'll see if it likewise removes the files in the C drive.

Kent: I just uninstalled it from L drive. The EasyAntiCheat folder with its 2 files is still in the C drive. What do you think of that?

It sounds like EAC is using the C drive as its directory for certain files, which may just be hard coded into the program. I don't know if we have a way of forcing it not to save those files there. 

There is something else I was curious about. Have you tried installing BF2042 through the EA App instead of Origin? I've seen a few people mention they were able to get the game running that way.

Hey Kent: I have four other BF games on my D drive and they run fine. I can't believe I'm the only one who isn't using the C drive or not downloading from the app. or whatever. So if I go through all this again and it doesn't work then what? I just wanted to play 2042. Computer * always ends-up being stupid like this.

Hey Kent: Here ya go.............. This is after a complete reinstall downloading from the EA app. I installed the whole thing on my D drive again with 4 other BF games. I'll bet you a dollar to donuts it has to do with the EAC function. So now what?

There is something else I was curious about. What happens if you try logging into Windows through a different admin user? I've seen some cases in the past where Windows UAC can cause some weird issues like this. 

If you need more info on how to create a new Admin user check out the Microsoft Support website. Once you have the chance to give that a shot let me know if it's still not allowing you to launch the game. 

Kent: I just wanted to play the game. I didn't want to start a gov/t research and development program. The admin thing was a bust too. I have never had a problem installing and playing any other BF game. I'm pretty sure the problem is not on my end. I've installed and reinstalled the game so many times now I can't count. You realize every time I need to download the 48GB it take almost 2 hours. Ok, so I've run through all the hoops and still nothing. So one of two options needs to happen. One, find the fix quickly on your end. Two, I get my $89 back. BTW, I could have got it from EA for $69. So what say you?

Hi Kent: Did you give up on me? Ok, here's a 27 sec. video of the launch. The game should run. If you watch you see it boot the game properly and gets to the

screen where the next screen should be the game but it just goes back to the EA page.

Hi Who: So what you are saying is you're starting to smell a rat. Me thinks so too so I agree. So like you I'm going to put the kibosh on EA at least until they get 2042 up and running. I suspect if it ever happens it will be in the form of an update. You and me are certainly not the only ones. I'm just waiting until they say "you have to get the jab before we make your game work" (-;
