It's because it is launching nine - NINE (9) .33in OR for those of you whose countries haven't landed on the moon 8.4mm (8.389mm if technical) pellets made of lead, copper, steel, bismuth, or tungsten. Flying at between approx 1150-1350fps. That is essentially the same thing as taking 9 simultaneous hits from the P18(M18/Sig P320) 9x19mm pistol. Which also flies between 1150-1350 fps

If anything, You should be asking dice to reduce the cone fire on rifles/carbine/dmr and pistols.
It's honestly a matter of math. How many shots do you need to kill someone with the pistol? 4 at 0-5m, 5 at 6-25m

M87A1 Shotgun base stats. The base stats are 160 dmg per shell. Let's do some math. 1 shell(round) =9 pellets. So, if we divide 160/9= 17.7 per pellet at 0-5M.
What you all are begging for is essentially to neuter shotguns and make them worse than pistols. Why? Because you don't like getting thrown into a ceiling painting competition with Kurt Cobain at rock throwing distance? gitgud.
BTW: I was mostly using the M4A1 (25dmg/r(900rpm)), L110 (25dmg/r(710rpm)), and PW7A1 (16dmg/r(947rpm).
